Good news for Sanam Saeed fans! She is back in the game with exciting projects down the pipeline. Although we haven’t seen much of her lately, she is returning to our screens with a web series, a film, and hopefully, a drama soon too (wishful thinking? We think not!). She has recently starred in a Zindagi Original Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam on ZEE5, along with a star-studded female cast. Scroll down to know more!

Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam is the new talk of the town! How could it not be? A star-studded, fierce female cast ruling our screens is enough to get fans excited. Need we say more? Recently, FUCHSIA asked Sanam Saeed to tell us all about her experience shooting for Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam, her favorite part about the show & much more. Let’s dive in!

Sanam Saeed says she had fun playing Zuvi as there was a lot of room to improvise. Zuvi’s high pitch and tonality were a result of her own improvisation of the character, just to add another layer to the character. Kudos to the director Meenu Gaur, who gave her room to improvise the dialogues and explore. She talks about a certain ‘twist’ at the end that people are really enjoying (no spoilers here).

Is QHKN Similar To Churails?

She revealed that even though QHKN is being compared with Churails, both the shows are nothing alike. “They are very different stories. They are very different worlds. The treatment is different.” Besides some cast members and a female-driven narrative, QHKN is nothing like Churails. Moreover, she also thinks that Churails paved the way for other writers or makers who had similar stories waiting to be told.

Calling it an ‘easy watch’, Sanam Saeed hopes people enjoy the fact that it’s an anthology and has just six episodes so people don’t get caught up in one long story. Talking about how she hopes fans will react to the show she said,

There are some fantastic performances, different flavors from all the women so I’m looking forward to their reactions and their responses when it comes to seeing us 7 actors in such different avatars.

Sanam Saeed On Her Character In Zuvi

Her story, in particular, isn’t based in androon seher, it has a different setting, however, she told us that it was definitely very liberating for her as an actor to play a character that for once, isn’t a damsel in distress. Zuvi has full control over what she’s doing and what she wants to do. She is ambitious, calculative, manipulative but all of this is justified. According to Sanam Saeed, the story will also tell us why Zuvi does what she does and it won’t seem invalid.

I haven’t done a role like this before and it was something I always wanted to do and it was an opportunity that randomly came my way and I was more than thrilled to be a part of it.

Story

Sanam Saeed revealed that there is one main storyline streamlined by Samiya Mumtaz and Meher Bano. It would be interesting to see how these two characters will make an appearance in each episode with their own backstories. Her episode is a short story that is woven into the bigger picture Samiya Mumtaz’s character talks about.

Whenever there’s a reference to a hurt woman, or a woman’s wrath, pained women or an ambitious woman, any example of the stories by Mai Maalki (Samiya Mumtaz’s character) are given, a visual reference is given with each episode played by Faiza, Beo and myself and Sarwat.

She feels that this kind of genre (desi noir) hadn’t been explored previously and we usually see men in roles such roles of murderers and psychopathic killers.

This time it’s really by the women, for the women, about the women.

The storyline follows women who would actually go to extreme lengths to get what they want, whether it’s justice, their ambitions, or their dreams. You cannot pursue these desires in real life because it’s not ‘legal’ or ‘morally correct.’ QHKN is a fantasy world where each woman is shown diving into her deepest desires in terms of vengeance.

Does Doing A Web Series Give You More Freedom?

She feels web series gives an actor much more creative freedom as compared to national television. “Web series gives you kind of that personal space, that privacy, the choice to watch what you want when you want to watch.

Because it is an OTT platform it also, therefore, gives you the freedom to express as you would like, maybe not total freedom but definitely way freer than what you’re able to show on television.

Upcoming Projects

Not long after Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam was released, another ZEE5 web series was announced where Sanam Saeed is starring opposite none other than Fawad Khan himself! Fans are super excited for the Zindagi Gulzar Hai joree to reunite after 8 years that too for a web series.

The project (untitled as of now) has been directed by Cake and Churails famed Asim Abbasi. The storyline is a blend of supernatural and magical realism. Plus, the photos that the director shared on his Instagram account are beyond gorgeous! The duo can be seen shooting in Hunza and we are expecting some picturesque frames in the web series! Ishrat Made In China

After a hiatus from films after Cake, Sanam Saeed is finally at it again with Ishat Made in China. It is Mohib Mirza’s directorial debut which was initially announced in 2019 but got delayed and it is now finally ready to hit the cinemas. So far, not much has been revealed regarding the film except for a teaser. By the looks of it, the film, of course, stars the ever-gorgeous Sanam Saeed opposite Mohib Mirza. It will also be acclaimed designer HSY’s film debut.

The cast also includes Ali Kazmi, Shabbir Jan, Nayyar Ejaz, Sara Lore, Imam Syed, Salman Saqib (Mani), and Mustafa Chaudhry. Speaking about the film, director Mohib Mirza stated, “The hit 2006 cult-classic television show Ishrat Baji is returning soon as a feature film. We can’t wait to see the much loved Ishrat Baji, a character made famous by Muhib Mirza, on the big screen soon.” (The Express Tribune)
