Heard of PRP or microneedling? Dr. Shaista Lodhi sat down with us and gave a detailed explanation of what they are and what they do. So read ahead to find out

Skin is a very delicate and important part of your body. As good skincare and cosmetic/aesthetic procedures are an important part of giving you your dream skin, it’s important to read up and research about them too.
Recently, Rabia Mughni from FUCHSIA sat down with Shaista Lodhi in her clinic, where she talked about different procedures, what they are, and their pros and cons. We have picked out PRP and Microneedling, two of the widely used procedures, to help you give a better understanding before you opt for either of them. Here’s what she had to say.
What Is PRP And How Does It Work?
PRP is a part of your blood. It’s a serum made from your own blood platelets as blood plasma has most growth factors. It is extracted very carefully as it is a fragile procedure and handled delicately. It’s also being used medically and surgically but in aesthetics, we use it for hair growth, skin rejuvenation, and aging. Any wrinkles or lines you see in the light will slowly disappear.
As PRP is a process involving your own blood, it can be started at any age be it 50 or 20, depending on the patient and doctor’s suggestions. It’s not a one-time or permanent thing, meaning that after 4 months or so, its results will start to disappear and it totally depends on the person if they want to opt for it again.
There is a special device to perform this procedure and can also be carried out by needling or microneedling. However, there are high chances of bruising, so if you have an event to go to, or a bride-to-be, then we opt for microneedling.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a device that targets a specific skin layer/depth to place the required serum. It can be any serum, whether it’s your own PRP serum or foreign serum. It depends on your skin type, acne, and the doctor’s suggestion. It is used for pigmentation, healing your skin and skin cells.
To carry out this cosmetic procedure, we make small wounds/punctures in the skin for the serum to pass through your skin. It’s not painful and there are less chances of bruising as it is widely carried out by using an insulin type injection so bruising chances are less.
The skin produces more collagen, leaving you with a glow; making you look fresher and younger for about 3-4 months.
For any procedure, make sure the aesthetic clinic you go to has training and is professional. Consult somebody or a dermatologist before opting for any procedure.
