Acne is a constant struggle for many of us. It is a skin disorder that can lead to many blemishes, pimples, uneven skin tones, blackheads and so much more. While many have prolonged acne, there are a few who have had acne for a while. But no matter what age you get acne, it surely is frustrating and annoying.

So are there ways to prevent it at home? Yes, there are ways and methods you can practice at home to help reduce and prevent acne. Let’s see what they are.

1. Keep Your Face Clean

Acne can at times be a result of excess dirt and oil sitting on the skin and your pores. So, it is recommended to wash your face with a mild cleanser such as the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser with mild/room temperature water. Then, dry your face and apply an oil-free moisturizer, such as The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. It contains hyaluronic acid and other nutrients that keep your skin hydrated without being oily.

Note: Do not use a harsh facewash or scrub as it can lead to inflammation, irritation and breakouts in the long run. Also, exfoliating too much is harmful too.

2. Don’t Pop The Pimples!

Popping pimples just to treat them and getting instant relief is not okay. Again, picking or popping them just because you have to go somewhere is no way out as this results in skin inflammation and permanent scarring. This can further lead to more pimples in the future.

Trust me don’t do this because I’ve done it and regret it to this day!

3. Eat Clean

According to dermatologists, foods rich in sugar, carbs and fats are high factors that lead to acne. Examples include junk food, fast food, sugary desserts (in large quantities) so on and so forth. So, simply cutting down on these will help you a lot in the long run.

Also, remember to drink water. Lot’s of it as it’ll leave your skin fresh and reduce the acne to a great extent. I’ve tried it and it works. My daily water intake used to be around 75ml, whereas now I drink around 2 litres max. My acne has cleared to a great extent and so have the blemishes.

4. Time To Clean Up

Ok, it’s no secret that our makeup brushes and sponges can get quite dirty with dust particles and from the excess foundation or blush left on them. It’s recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), to clean the beauty products every 7-10 days. So say bye-bye to all the bacteria.

How to clean makeup sponges?

  1. Hold the sponge under running water and squeeze it repeatedly until all the product on it flows away.
  2. Then add a few drops of hand soap, spread it over the sponge and squeeze until it is thoroughly clean.
  3. Rinse it a bit more and tap it dry with a towel and then leave to air dry. Use when completely dry/

It’s that simple. Go try now!

5. Visit Your Dermatologist

If you have severe acne, cystic or in some cases inherited, preventing it can be tricky. So in these situations, it’s best to consult a dermatologist. They will most likely take a few tests (such as blood and hormone) to find the root cause and then all you have to do is follow what they say. Professional help can go a long way!

Acne can at times be irritating due to the skin’s inflammation. It’s best to take precautions to help reduce it and keep the skin healthy, glowing and happy!
