Week in Dramas – Mere Humnasheen, Mere Humsafar and Habs. Did they all pack a punch?

The Week In Dramas - Mere Humsafar, Mere Humnasheen And Habs!
Back to the drawing board as we contemplate another week without Bakhtawar. Makes it all the more crucial that the other stories pack a punch. But did they?

When a story is moving towards its final destination, it is imperative that it takes the audience along. The journey (i.e. the first 30 episodes) is only worthwhile if the last two complete the circle. However…

Mere humsafar

Mere Humsafar seems to be running around in more than one circle – concentric circles, shall we call them? Hala insecure about Hamza, Hamza not managing to reassure Hala that he won’t take the baby away from her. Then, Shah Jahan continuing to work her ‘magic’ on Hala, Sameen not warming up to Khurram, despite him having crossed all the ts she asked for… the story is a round trip marathon yeah? And then, here’s the catch, if one story is pulling us down, then the other one should uplift. However, in this case, from Rumi to Hamza, and everyone in between, including Nafees (who seems to be backtracking on his resolve to take Hala home), everyone is on a downward trend.

Didn’t make for a very impactful episode.

In fact, I’d say, this one could have been given a miss. Oh and if anything that mashreqi dad dialogue? Employ that YouTube edit button and delete it from memory. The less said the better.

Onwards To… Mere Humnasheen

Oh what a magnificent double episode of Mere Humnasheen! Watch for the performances – Darakhzai love, Khajista confusion, the final Aima reveal, heart feels for Hadi and… surprise surprise, super emotional and impactful meltdowns minus any signature thappars! Congratulations to the director Ali Faizaan who showed us how it’s done!

The story stands at the precipice where the heart belongs to all three – Hadi, Khajista and Darakhzai. It’s a catch 22 where all 3 can’t stay in the picture yet we’re rooting for all of them! Well done there writer, director and cast, for giving us all the makings of a romance driven, message driven, dramatic thriller that kept us riveted from episode one!

Episode next is the one to watch though. Any predictions?

Can Darakhzai be saved? Will Khajista win her heart’s desire and how? And will Behram Khan be absolved from what he never did?

Appreciation for super performances from Shahzad Sheikh, Ahsan Khan, Hiba Bukhari, Harris Waheed and Salma Hassan – performances that spoke a mile and a half!

And Moving On To Habs

Twitter Is In Love With The Chemistry Between Basit & Ayesha In Habs!

With the coming to terms with his mom’s passing, the makers must be commended for depicting the fact that closure for Basit is of utmost importance – not just closure in our living relationships, but for those who have left us as well. Basit’s conversation at his mom’s grave completed the sentences and feelings hidden deep inside him, resentment needs expression so that we can move ahead and begin new relationships with a clean slate.

For all those, including yours truly, who are rooting for the long awaited Ayesha- Basit romance, hold your horses. Let’s hope his mending bridges with his mom can help ease the pain and allow him to embark on a healing journey with Ayesha by his side. Let’s also hope that Ayesha gets heard in the relationship too, … eventually.

On the other side, Zoya’s elopement & Bano’s discovery was well executed. Directorially, the camera angles and timing were well put together.

It is but tragic that Zoya’s sisters could not put up resistance against the tyranny of their mom and save her from a gross injustice! Let’s hope there’s time yet.

And on an uplifting note, what’s up with Fahad & Bano? We hope there’s a love at second sight working behind the scenes here, coz we’re so here for it!

And that’s a wrap folks! Looking forward to episode next from Bakhtawar and lots more action in the week. Mere Humsafar save us from the unending torture… lesson learnt. A story does not need to be stretched beyond its life cycle. Hope someone’s listening up there!
