Some media reports initially indicated that Zainab Abbas left India due to “security concerns,” possibly arising from a complaint filed by a local lawyer in Delhi. The lawyer accused her of posting tweets in the past that were considered derogatory towards the Hindu Faith.
Background
On 5th October, Supreme Court lawyer Vineet Jindal announced that he had lodged a cyber complaint against Pakistani cricket presenter Zainab Abbas due to the surfacing of her old posts containing anti-Hindu and anti-India content.
Jindal, in his complaint dated 4th October, accused Zainab Abbas of making statements that were derogatory towards India and Hinduism. He communicated the complaint to the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police, urging the initiation of an FIR (First Information Report) against Abbas. He specified the sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) – 153A, 295, 506, 121 – and section 67 of the IT Act under which he sought action against her for her offensive remarks. Additionally, Jindal called for Zainab Abbas to be removed from the list of presenters for the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup. (OPindia)
Vineet Jindal alleged that the anti-Hindu tweets were originally posted about nine years ago by Zainab Abbas under the username “Zainablovesrk,” which has now been changed to “ZAbbas Official,” her current active social media account.
Recent Development
Following the statement from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding Zainab Abbas not being deported from India, another sports journalist from India corroborated this information. It was confirmed that Zainab Abbas has no pending cases in India, affirming that her departure was a personal matter and not related to any legal issues or deportation.
On the other hand, Samaa TV reported, citing unnamed sources, that Abbas vehemently denied the allegations and felt unjustly targeted.
According to sources close to Abbas, she insisted that she was falsely accused, and her past social media activity was taken out of context. They emphasized that her previous posts were unrelated to her role and work as a presenter in the field of sports.
