The new number neighbor trend has taken twitter by storm and it isn’t stopping anytime soon. For those of you who’re not aware of this new Twitter trend here’s a short summary.
On July 31st, a twitter user by the name of Rayn tweeted that he once texted his number neighbor and that the results were hilarious. The trend requires you to message the person with the same phone number as you, except for the last two digits. For example, if your number is 0xxx-xxxxx22 you text 0xxx-xxxxx23 instead.
Whatever happened next was history. People on Twitter immediately started texting their number neighbors and putting up screenshots:
Some weren’t very happy with the random surprise:
Some got real real, real quick:
Some made the most of it and ended up making friends!
And some were hilariously given a shut up call:
And here’s how two Pakistanis reacted:

While the number neighbor is an interesting trend that has all of us intrigued, being Pakistani citizens it’s important for us to be wary of the people we’re texting. And even if the people we’re texting turn out to be friendly and not harmful, it is still vital for us to maintain caution.
Regardless, we hope for the day we as a country will overcome fears like these and contribute to global trends like this one.
Till then, maybe you can be the first? Text your number neighbor and let us know how that turned out!
