The recent episode of Tumharey Husn Kay Naam has all that young Pakistani audiences have longed for in our dramas. Here are 5 scenes that make it a must watch!

Produced by Eyeconic Media in association with Multiverse Entertainment, the Green Entertainment series is directed by Saqib Khan who has Ghabrana Nahi Hai under his belt, and written by Umera Ahmed and Sarah Qayyum. The show stars Saba Qamar and Imran Abbas in leading roles along with Salman Shahid, Asad Siddiqui and Sidra Niazi, Maha Hassan and Haris Waheed.
Tumharey Husn Kay Naam is a timeless love-story woven in threads of melancholic romance, philosophy, nostalgia. Salma and Sikandar epitomize true love as a condition that defies all man-made social divisions and differences; the only condition that transcends the human soul beyond the realm of space, time and gravity; the only divine truth to this mundane existence. With recent episodes the makers merge also, the modern love story of their Salma and Sikandar’s children.
Sikandar is now settled in London and Salma is a university professor. While we wait for them to cross paths once more, we have the very interesting to watch love story unfolding between their children. Now whether they consider it either destiny, fated meetings or pure coincidences, it is up to them, but we think it is fated indeed.
Audiences are applauding Maha Hasan and Haris Waheed for having acted so brilliantly in this episode, along with how exceptionally well the makers shifted the drama to present times. Each episode is given so much thought, paired so well with modesty, modernity, sexism, classical accord and romance is just wow. So many of them say they can relate to this girl and the guy being from the modern times. Also how it’s good to see Pakistani dramas normalizing two people dating each other because let’s face it and be true to ourselves, it happens regardless of if whether we accept it or not. There’s intellectual conversations and witty banter between the two – Umer & Sarah and it’s just what audiences have longed to watch.
Here are 5 scenes that made episode 16 a must watch:
1. The Walk In The Park Featuring Some Ice cream
Umer and Sarah’s first date included a dinner date, a movie followed by a relaxing walk in the park while they indulged in some ice cream. The scene felt extremely natural, flowed like a breeze as they both engaged in a post movie conversation that was fun yet enlightening. With some important thought provoking points delivered by the two, at a point in the conversation Umer says: “auratain apni izzat bachanay kay liye khud khushi kar leti hain.” Sarah counters him: tou tum unn mardou mai say hou jo izzat aur ghairat kay ridiculous ideas mai believe kartay hain? Umer digressed, claiming he was just talking generally. It was followed by an interesting and might we add, never heard before analogy by Sarah: “agar koi kutta peechay paray, tou usko pathar marnay kay bajaye aurat ko apnay apko jala lena chaye?” One that we completely agree with! Louder!
Thankfully Umer too, realises what a ridiculous thought that is but one thing is clear for them at that very moment: they both aren’t at all compatible for each other. Umer being too sexist for Sarah, who is too independent and not as traditional for Umer. But wait, they make sure to tell each other to harbor no hard feelings as they decide they won’t meet again. A classic romcom feel!
2. Meet Cute: The Office Version
Sarah has a presentation at work and she tells her boss she has got this (we believe you do). But she faces her now competitor and the guy she just went on date with, Umer who is the rival, also taking part in the pitch. It was so great for once, to watch a well thought out, convincingly well portrayed office scene where the actors are actually showcasing an interesting and up-to-date with times scenarios. There is realness, relevance, innovation, competitiveness and professional dialogues set right for the right scene, yes thank you! The meet cute version of an office romance.
3. The Coffee & Cake = Mood Lifter
Umer seems to have won the pitch leaving Sarah in a rather disappointed mood but they go out for a coffee anyway and Umer tries to cheer her up but while he does that he says something along the lines of “don’t be so tough on yourself, waisay bhi larkiou ko itna competitive nahi hona chahye. Bari mushkil hojati hai.” Ayra did chime in saying: aisay he tou agay barhtay hain. It does make you wonder, why are we so wary of teaching our girls and letting them stay competitive? Why are competitive girls just titled difficult? Something to think over…anyway, after successfully making us ask the right questions, the scene strings along a cute yet poignant moment of them sharing more about their exes and why they left them. Hmm, a great topic to bond over over a date (it was another date, right?) or not? You tell us!
4. Sarah & Umer’s Friends Try To Set Them Up But Little Do They Know….
A real, modern day set up by their friends was such a fun touch. A casual, lowkey and relatable scene for a lot of young people in a Pakistani drama? Can you believe it? Set up by their friends who didn’t realize the two; Sarah and Umer had met already. They both claim once again how they both are not compatible for each other at all but their smiles and grins say otherwise. Left alone by their friends, the two proceed to have, yet again, another unsuspecting steak dinner date. Unleashing a controversy, wait for it – the controversy of chicken steaks.
It’s gladdening to see our makers and writers adding in fun, quirky, more relevant themes of discussions. Umer says he doesn’t prefer chicken steaks but rather beef steaks, Sarah as always confidently tells him “I know because the only steaks ever are beef steaks, chicken steaks are not a thing.” How many of you believe chicken steaks are a thing? (Really?)
5. The Reverse Proposal
Their 3rd dinner date leads to Umer proposing to Sarah, as she shared her work stories and banter, he suddenly flipped out a ring! Sarah’s first reaction? She laughs…the reaction he probably expected the least. She thinks it is so typical but Umer retorts: this is all he has ever seen in movies and after all, this is his first proposal! The couple bantered and once again, it was fun to watch. The conversation was not toxic, the male character did not lash out with a bruised ego nor did he get violent and passive-aggressive. It was so satisfying to watch though being confused and a bit rattled, he was willing to listen to her, understand where she was coming from! We love that for them and us. So was it a yes or a no? It’s a 50/50, Sarah says!
She says she hardly knows him, she wants to know more about him, date him and she will then see. Yes, finally we see a true to life and relatable approach to love in young couples in our dramas. She ends up giving him a reverse proposal – he can place the ring on any other finger than THE finger (ring finger, if you are still wondering), if they decide to move forward they can switch the ring’s place or just call it quits, simple! We totally agree with Sarah’s approach. An ingenious idea for couples who maybe, sort of, want to make it official but also give themselves time to find out more about each other. Take notes, guys.
This episode was surely all in all, a super fun watch. It was interesting, kept you engaged but also did not miss out on sending admirable messages along the way without even nearing the preachy. What did you like best from the latest episode of Tumhaarey Husn Kay Naam?
