Qarz e Jaan: Do you think Nashwa truly believes that if Bisma marries Asim, she can also escape marrying Ammar? Or did she just say it to convince Bisma, knowing deep down that she has no option but to marry Ammar? If she genuinely believes Asim can rescue her, she’s underestimating Bakhtiyar. He has had his eyes on Bisma for the longest time, and there’s no way he’ll let her marry Asim and allow Nashwa to get away with this

The Pull Factor

One of the most beautiful things about Qarz-e-Jaan is that it’s not your typical love story between a man and a woman. Instead, it’s the story of a mother and daughter, trapped among toxic and controlling relatives. Another aspect that sets this drama apart is how it brings real, unspoken thoughts to the screen through its characters, making it deeply relatable.

For instance, when Bisma lashes out at Nashwa in front of everyone discussing her and Asim’s proposal, she blames Nashwa for ruining her reputation. A large part of society probably thinks the same—how can a woman, at this stage of life, with a daughter of marriageable age, consider getting married herself? But the drama beautifully responds to this question through Qudsia quoting religion and Nashwa’s reply to her grandmother.

Mother-Daughter Feels

The conversation between Bisma and Nashwa was heart-wrenching. Nashwa complained about being slapped, while Bisma tried to explain her POV. It was impossible not to wipe a tear and feel emotional—only to smile at the end when Nashwa said, “Tab tou aap mujhe rescue karengi!”. This one conversation showed so many angles to Nashwa, the vulnerable longing in her to have a father figure in life, the strength that she has to navigate Bakhtiyar and dadi’s evil plans and the little girl in her upset at her mom slapping her in front of everyone and her mother not caring about herself.

This drama highlights such an important point: to protect her children, a mother must first protect herself. She must raise her voice for her rights and stop accepting mistreatment; otherwise, she’ll never be able to safeguard her children.

Qarz e Jaan and our thoughts

While we absolutely love Qarz-e-Jaan, there are a few things we wish the drama had addressed:

Why can’t Bisma and Nashwa leave this house? Asim and his family are supporting them, and Nashwa is an adult now—she can’t legally be forced into anything. So why can’t they still do it, this should have been clarified in the story.

Ammar has been accused of rape, and Nashwa knows the accusation is likely true. So why is she so calm? Why doesn’t this fact disturb her more than Ammar simply being unsuitable for her? Even when Bisma talks to Sidra or Nashwa, she never mentions Ammar’s criminal record. It feels like the entire family—and the drama—has conveniently forgotten about it.

A mother abusing her adult daughter shouldn’t be normalized. Bisma could have been shown scolding Nashwa or getting angry but slapping her in front of everyone felt excessive and unnecessary.

Oh Burhan!

Burhan’s heart broke when Nashwa coldly dismissed him in the office. He was clearly referring to his feelings and their chemistry, but Nashwa chose to ignore it. Usama Khan delivered a fantastic performance in that scene!

The Nashwa-Ammar chemistry is there!

There are two reasons why the audience isn’t reacting too harshly to Ammar, despite him being an alleged rapist:

  1. The drama shows him as a victim of abuse—his father mistreats him and forces him into situations he doesn’t want. While this doesn’t justify Ammar’s actions, it provides a perspective that softens the audience’s judgment.
  2. Fans are enjoying Yumna and Nameer’s on-screen chemistry, so Ammar’s negative traits are being overlooked. Their scenes together carry an unspoken energy, and both actors are doing an incredible job. The conversation between Ammar and Nashwa even made us smile. If we momentarily forget that Ammar might be a rapist (which the drama subtly makes us do), their interaction felt like a typical exchange between two cousins who don’t get along.

Ammar, despite his twisted ways, was hoping Nashwa—the stronger one—could find a way to get them both out of this situation.

The way in which Ammar follows her from one patio to another, and hesitates to initiate a conversation, then sits back and pretends to act cool – Nashwa keeping her cool yet telling him off: “Why are you even on this earth!” was both amusing and yet, intense to watch.

The Evil Machinations

Bakhtiyar and Dadi aren’t just bad people; they are cruel manipulators. The way they smirked when Bisma reacted to Nashwa’s engagement showed how much they enjoy seeing others suffer.

The Highlights

It looks like Nashwa has a plan—she’s calm and not reacting impulsively. We’re waiting eagerly to see what she has in store!

Beenish is also growing on us. She supports both Bisma and Nashwa, lightens Nashwa’s mood, and even stands up to Ammar for her.

The conversation between Sidra and Bisma was another beautiful moment. Sidra, trying to make amends, reassures Bisma that things will be okay. It was touching to see two women trapped in the same helpless situation, trying to reach out to each other.

Why didn’t Burhan refuse Asim when he suggested he marry Faryal? Did he think this would stop Asim from marrying Bisma?

Appreciation for the entire cast for their phenomenal performances! Every scene is emotionally gripping and unforgettable.
