The city is red, every nook and corner, restaurant, bakery, and shopping mall is celebrating Valentine’s Day. Though it is a sight to behold, it is not a pleasant sight for someone like me who is forever lonely or commonly known as single. Usually, I hate this word, (like you need someone to be complete) – but on Valentine’s Day, you suddenly start craving a relationship (Thankfully, I don’t have this craving for Mother’s Day!). Strategically placed billboards, teddy bears on display, mesmerizing flower bouquets, and heavenly chocolates – The marketing strategy is working and here I am wishing that I should have someone just for the Valentine’s Day, the love stories to tell, and the cute little moment to brag about (Cz Iss Se Zyada Bardaasht Nahin Hota!)
While lovey-dovey couples are planning the weekend to celebrate love, here I am finalizing the list of romantic movies I am going to binge on this weekend. Yes, you heard me right, I am planning to watch love stories this weekend and I am EXCITED! On normal weekends, I am a bookworm but there are some romantic movies that did justice (and even superseded) their counterpart novel and what better time to watch than Valentine’s weekend? Because after all, what can be better than a book? An amazing depiction of the book!
Twilight Series
The ‘Twilight’ series was a massive hit because it promised never-ending life, sheer good looks, piles of money, and most importantly, a happily ever after (literally!). The excitement of a vampire falling in love with a mere mortal and sacrificing everything for the love of her life leaves you all teary and hoping that you can find a vampire too (come on, look at the package). The depiction of this blockbuster novel into a movie was impressive and you can settle down on the couch this weekend to binge-watch the series and feel good about someone else’s happy ending!
The Fault In Our Stars
One of the best book-to-screen adaptations, ‘The Fault in our Stars’ touched hearts all across the globe. With the overwhelming popularity of John Green’s book, there was a lot of pressure on the filmmakers to get it right and they did not disappoint. The story is not only about love, but it is also about survival, living life to its fullest, cherishing good memories, and never losing hope. If a movie can make you happy, sad, and motivated – it is this one!
50 Shades Of Grey
The novel was labeled obscene, full of nudity, profanity, kinky stuff – AND the movie did justice to it. Though ’50 Shades of Grey’ is a controversial book and movie, it has a massive fan following. Minus the weird sexual scenes and elaborate BDSM, it is a love story nonetheless and a good one!
Crazy Rich Asians
The extravagant lifestyle of the characters of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ is fresh in our minds. With an intriguing storyline and a cast that did justice to the characters, the movie brought a new level of fame for the novel. As a reader and viewer, I can say that the cute little moments reserved a forever place in our hearts – to be relived and cherished time and again!
The Sun Is Also A Star
The novel was loved by millions and the movie is the reflection of why it was loved in the first place. Falling in love in a day while dealing with the stress of deportation; destiny can bring strangers together in difficult times. The theme of the movie touched my romantic heart and I am already looking forward to the weekend.
