Ranveer Singh has just been confirmed in Don 3! Did you know rumour has it, Don 3 was first planned with Shah Rukh who would be returning to the iconic franchise?
It seems something went amiss in Farhan Akhtar’s plan and SRK won’t be returning as the all evasive and charming Don! Rumours suggest, despite the sustained fan anticipation the film was actually never set in motion. Turns out it will be the quite quirky yet ace performer Ranveer Singh getting into the charming gangster’s character.
Just in: Don 3 is slated for a 2025 release, directed and written by Farhan Akhtar, who also steered the two SRK movies. Co- produced by Ritesh Sidhwani. Amongst the two most iconic Dons in Bollywood’s history, will Ranveer Singh be able to leave the same insurmountable mark?

All Bollywood fans know the undisputed OG Don title is solely attributed to the true king of Bollywood or as many knew him to be THE angry young man – Yes, we are talking about Amitabh Bachan, the legend. Then came the romance king who some would say brought his own slightly charismatic and romantic touch to the gangster’s role which would lead on to be become much celebrated.
The Romance king of Bollywood aka SRK, ventured out into a more cryptic, tad negative, action oriented role with Don. Though the originality and irreplaceable aura of Amitabh as Don was not lost on most, SRK’s fans began to recognise him as the Don they would remember for the following decades and the hit promised SRK to live for another sequel as Don.
Farhan Akhtar Shares His Thoughts On His Threequel
Though, what most weren’t expecting was the 3rd installation of the movie setting up for a release much later, to be precise, 14 years later. Farhan Akhar shared an instagram post with his thoughts on his 2025 release: “It was 1978 when the nation witnessed the rage of Don for the first time with superstar Mr Amitabh Bachchan playing the lead. While the first film continues to hold its charm, Excel Entertainment is delighted to announce the directorial homecoming of Farhan Akhtar’s Don. With a legacy firmly established through his iconic two-film action franchise with Shah Rukh Khan in 2006 and 2011, the director is set to redefine the boundaries of storytelling once again in Don 3.”
He added, “The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired. We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. A new era of Don begins in 2025. Watch this space.”
