Hira Khan & Saad Qureshi Talk About Sara & Zaheen on Wo Paagal Si in Gup Shup with FUCHSIA

FUCHSIA Magazine hosted Wo Pagal Si stars Hira Khan & Saad Qureshi in Gup Shup with FUCHSIA. It was interesting to get perspective on the industry trends from relatively newcomers who are working hard to mark a career in a steeply competitive environment. But although there are many challenges, they revealed, there were some uplifting stories as well, about supportive co-actors as well as a trend to switch to new age heroes.
So let’s get started on what turned out to be an engaging 60 minutes of conversation!
How hard is it to enter into a hugely competitive industry, we asked: Hira Khan opened up about the same old, the prejudice within our industry for fair-skinned heroines.
“You are not the typical gori larki that is a heroine. ” I was told, says Hira

Hira also addressed how things are for newcomers within the industry and mentioned she was lucky to have had a positive experience.
“As a newcomer, when you are meeting your co-star or an established actor, it is your fate. You might meet good people like I did. But you also meet people who say, you are a newcomer, you don’t know anything so just listen to us. It can be your director, or it can be a person in a position of power. “
Hira Khan
Because I have heard things like, you are not the typical gori larki who is a heroine.
Hira was all praises for Waseem Abbas with whom she had worked recently on the sets of Mere Humsafar. She mentioned that he is very supportive and just like a father figure.
Hira went on to speak about insensitive comments that she received in passing:
Abhi toh screen par khoobsoorat aaogi toh koi aapki kahaani sunega. And I swear to God I went home and cried. Mein kya karoon, koi kehta hai injections lagwa lo, although I think I’m fine. And even if I’m not, I think I’m comfortable in my skin.
I just thought that the fact that somebody said that to my face with no filter. That hurt me.
Saad Qureshi aka Zaheen in Woh Pagal Si went on to discuss how audience’s expectations have changed with the times
“Audiences now say we want to see Hamza in Mere Humsafar or Zaheen in Wo Pagal Si. We are done with the bad boys jo Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi mein hai.”
He felt the industry must serve as change agents too:
Saad Qureshi – Zaheen in Wo Paagal Si
“We have to divert audiences too. There are good people too. Every person is not such that maardoonga toh pyar hoga!”
Hira agreed that people are done watching submissive heroines. She explained that:
“When I chose Sara, she is ‘Paagal Si’ but she will not take your B.S! “
