Must-Watch
Romance/Drama
A film trailer that will make you want to go watch the film immediately, is the first sign that the director has won half the battle – especially if it’s not starring the likes of superstars such as Salman Khan, SRK, Sidharth Malhotra or Alia Bhatt. Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda will make you fall in love with Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana. And the credit goes to a trailer that promises nothing fantastic – just real life stories played out on the big screen!
Recently Indian cinema has been coming out with some great stories like Bareilly Ki Barfi, Hindi Medium etc, which are not big banner films, which are not your typical Bollywood stories, and yet they’ve done fairly well at the box office. The winning formula to break through the clutter seems to be – refreshingly simple stories with great acting. The audiences are tired of watching the same old big-budget films with lavish sets, expansive European landscapes, technically choreographed (yet not so musical) numbers, stylish clothes and big names, but little or no story to match the mega publicity. That’s why Bareilly Ki Barfi won the audience’s hearts. Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is another such film, and the trailer makes you want to watch it immediately.
With Qarib Qarib Singlle, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana and Ittefaq releasing all together and Padmavati releasing soon after, FUCHSIA’s pick this Bollywood season is Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana. No matter how hard you will try not to, you will fall in love with Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda’s love story.
Sattu (Rajkummar Rao) and Aarti (Kriti Kharbanda) meet on their parents’ insistence to check out each other for a possible marriage proposal. Here begins the romance; which is simple, endearing, heart-warming, original and realistic. However, on the night of the wedding Aarti runs away, leaving Sattu devastatingly heart-broken. No spoiler alerts here, watch the film to find out why. What follows is an interesting twist of fate which brings them both together again. But will Sattu ever be able to forgive Aarti and will they live happily ever after? Well, you must watch the film to discover the answers to these questions. Here is why it’s a must- watch:
It’s THE Love Story
It CAN happen to you.
You would WANT it to happen to you.
It’s the one you HEAR ABOUT from your friends.
That’s the beauty of this directorial debut by Ratnaa Sinha. This is no fairy tale, dream-like love story. It shows how two people actually, slowly, gradually fall in love with each other. No grand gestures, no tall claims. Like all average women, Aarti’s wish-list is, for her husband to take her to the cinema every week, to wear his favourite color pink every time she meets him. Sattu doesn’t try to bring the moon for her but simply wishes her happy birthday by showering her with flowers. The way he would look at her and want to be near her while she is busy talking or performing the simplest of chores, will melt your heart.
So you will just fall in love with the love story of Sattu and Aarti – gladly, uncontrollably and with all your heart, because you will be able to relate to it.
Rajkummar Rao Is At His Best
The talented and versatile Rajkummar Rao whom you have seen in support-roles like Bareilley Ki Barfi, Queen etc. has finally been given the chance to play the lead-role in a rom-com. So those who took their chances on him have been proved right – his performance is above par! You will find him charming in his white kurta and white shirt and cute when he dances foolishly. Sattu (Rajkummar Rao) began his career as an excise department clerk and fell in love with his prospective wife who is not allowed to continue her studies despite scoring at the top of her class.
You will share his disbelief that a girl so beautiful and talented has fallen in love with him. Later, you will cry and get angry with him when his heart breaks and you will try to justify his actions as he tries to settle back into his life after Aarti leaves him on the day of their wedding. The transformation from a casual, happy-go-lucky Sattu to serious, sophisticated and mature Sattu is brilliant. The best part about the film is the way Rajkummar Rao has beautifully potrayed the combination of a simple, average guy that you see around yourself everywhere with the genuine, hopelessly romantic and refreshingly open-minded guy that you wish to meet.
Kriti Kharbanda Is Refreshingly Beautiful And Talented
Thank God Bollywood cinema finally has a new face. One that is both beautiful and extremely talented. Although she’s not a new name in the film industry (she has already established herself in Kannada, Telugu film), she has played out Aarti’s character with perfect ease and charm. She is a pleasure to watch and you cannot take your eyes off her when she gradually falls in love with Sattu(Rajkummar Rao).
Her expressions speak volumes when fate brings her back to him and she seeks his forgiveness. When Sattu says ‘I love you’; she is coy, naughty and happy all at the same time. When Sattu has transformed and wants her to spend a night with him; she is hopeful, tempted, devastated and broken all at the same time. So go watch and witness the first Hindi hit of a star who’s sure to take Bollywood by storm – this is how stars are made!
The PLOT Is Simple Yet Original
It has surprises instore for you, and then some predictability too. Like many other Indian films, it doesn’t end when you think it does, and you’re delighted to be able to see more of Aarti and Sattu.
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is a blend of romance, comedy and sadness. It highlights some social issues that make you think about whose fault is it really? The director has raised the issues of dowry, and women who still struggle with the right to be allowed to work, in a manner that makes us think. You will question your values and try to find a way out – a solution. You will ask yourself: Who is right? Is this right? What should they have done? What would you do? Ratnaa Sinha has successfully managed to make the audience identify with the struggle that her characters play out onscreen. We look forward to more such wonders from her. The story won’t allow you to get bored and you will keep wanting to watch to see what happens next.
The Music Is Memorable
Last but not least, watch it for the beautiful music. It’s slow and romantic, and you will find yourself humming it all the time. Long drives, dedication to your loved one at a party, coffee on a rainy day, background score for a quiet dinner – yes, it’s that kind of music. These hummable tunes with some soulful cinematography is just what was needed to complete the love story. Main Hoon Saath Tere is sung by Arijit Singh so of course, how can you go wrong with this combination. We have to give credit to Yasser Desai (who has sung the other two songs), for giving us some great numbers. You can almost feel the emotion and depth in his voice. Pallo Latke which is sung by Yasser Desai and Jyotica Tangri, and rapped by Fazilpuria is a dance number towards the end which we predict will be the shaadi song in the coming winters.
Although the story is a bit of a stretch at the end and a touch of unrealism seeps in, you will forgive the director for these transgressions, as you’ve already fallen in love with the film. So go watch: Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana and be prepared to fall in love!
