The Pakistani drama industry has always been filled with chalak mother-in-laws and masoom bahus/daughters-in-law, but here’s something more you might have missed!

3 Full-Of-Life Pakistani Drama Heroines Who Broke The Typical Heroine Mold Of Pakistani Dramas!

The Pakistani drama industry has seen a refreshing shift with fun female characters who break away from traditional stereotypes. Typically, our dramas have overshadowed female characters, portraying them as either wicked, overly innocent, damsels in distress or trapped in love triangles. Often, the narratives revolve around women who are either naive or entangled in complicated love stories. In between these clichés, we longed for characters that genuinely represent the everyday girls in our society. These are girls who are neither stuck in love triangles nor struggling against a cruel society or oppressive in-laws and can stand up for their own selves.

Here are some of our favorite full-of-life drama girls who have redefined the meaning of heroines for us! These characters break away from traditional molds, bringing a fresh and relatable perspective to the screen. They reflect the vibrant, dynamic, and multifaceted lives of modern Pakistani women. These heroines are neither victims nor villains but are real and full of life, providing inspiration and entertainment in equal measure.

Ayeza Khan As Meenu In Chupke Chupke – 2021

Meenu Tu Larki Tou Bari Cool Hai, Ye Duniya Bari Fuzool Hai!

Meenu’s Signature Dialogue

Meenu is not your average Pakistani drama heroine. She is a carefree and clumsy girl who doesn’t know how to cook or do house chores. Unlike traditional heroines, Meenu has no interest in studying and dreams only of getting married. She doesn’t dream to hold books in her hands. However, she ends up marrying her seemingly biggest enemy, Faazi, in an unexpected twist of fate. Remember “Bhaiyya Banay Saiyyan”? That’s their story!

Ayeza Khan brought Meenu to life with her brilliant acting skills, making the character immensely enjoyable. From throwing chai ki patti to breaking glasses, she gave a voice to all the Meenus out there. Ayeza’s portrayal highlighted the fun, quirky side of women who don’t fit the traditional mold, adding a refreshing layer to Pakistani drama heroines.

Here’s one of our favorite scenes from Chupke Chupke:

Saima Akram Chaudhry wrote it, while Danish Nawaz directed it. Momina Duraid Productions produced it. The cast includes Osman Khalid Butt, Ayeza Khan, Hira Soomro, Muhammad Qavi Khan, Tara Mahmood, Sidra Niazi, Arsalan Asad Butt, Farhan Ally Agha, Sheheryar Zaidi, Salma Asim, Asma Abbas, Uzma Beg, Mira Sethi, Ayesha Mirza, Arsalan Bin Naseer, Ali Safina, Aymen Saleem, Abdul Hadi, Areesha (Child), and others.

Sehar Khan As Umeed In Fairytale – 2023

Mujhay Uss Gharyal Say Bohat Dar Lagta Hai!

Just Umeed Talking About Farjaad

Umeed is a goofy, quirky, and chaotic girl who also doesn’t wish to be busy doing house chores or cooking. But she’s more than that because she’s ambitious and dreams of independence. She wants to open her own chai dhaaba since she’s a chai freak. Garmi ho ya sardi, umeed ki chai har mausam me chalti! Umeed is determined to get rich on her own, even if it means taking shortcuts. Her character embodies the spirit of young women who aspire to break free from traditional roles and pursue their passions, no matter how unconventional. She shows that ambition and a little chaos can lead to success.

Sehar Khan did complete justice to the role of Umeed with her outstanding acting. She brought Umeed’s chaotic yet lovable personality to life, making her a relatable and unforgettable character. Sehar’s portrayal captured Umeed’s ambition and quirkiness perfectly, resonating with viewers who see themselves in her struggles and dreams.

Here’s one of our favorite scenes from Fairytale:

Sarah Majeed penned Fairytale, while Ali Hassan took the helm as director. The production was overseen by Momina Duraid Productions. Starring Ali Safina, Sehar Khan, Hamza Sohail, Saleem Sheikh, Adnan Raza Mir, Aena Khan, Salma Hasan, Tehseen Wajahat, Hina Rizvi, Saman Ansari, Amna Youzasaif, and others.

Yumna Zaidi As Mahjabeen From Pyar Ke Sadqay – 2020

Amma, Meri Shaadi Karwado Na!

Mahjabeen Urging To Get Married

Mahjabeen isn’t your typical character in Pyar Ke Sadqay. She’s a hilariously fumbling, innocent girl with little exposure to the real world. Her simplicity and sincerity shine through, despite her struggles to grasp social cues. Coming from a lower-middle-class family, Mahjabeen’s daydreams often lead her to humorous situations, as she longs for a simpler, happier life through marriage.

Yumna Zaidi effortlessly stepped into the shoes of Mahjabeen, bringing her character to life with natural ease and authenticity. Her seamless portrayal captivated audiences, immersing them in Mahjabeen’s world and emotions throughout the series.

Here’s one of our favorite scenes from Pyar Ke Sadqay:

Pyar Ke Sadqay was written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and expertly directed by Farooq Rind. The drama also featured Bilal Abbas Khan, Omair Rana and others. Pyar ke Sadqay was produced by MD Productions and aired on HUM TV.

We need more characters like these, ones who break away from the usual, truth be told stale narratives that have dominated Pakistani dramas for too long. These refreshing heroines offered a new perspective, showcasing the diverse and real experiences and personalities of women, today, in Pakistani society.

Which of these heroines is your doppelganger in nature? Share with us below and let’s celebrate the spirit of individuality together!
