1. Advancing Female Participation in Pakistan
An independent election watchdog group, the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), released a report on Saturday regarding the recent general elections in Pakistan.
FAFEN’s report was based on observations from 5,664 monitors, including men, women, and transgender individuals, who were deployed to oversee 22,656 polling stations, covering roughly a quarter of the total stations across 265 constituencies. The findings indicated that collaborative measures by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other stakeholders had successfully narrowed the gender gap in voter registration.
Focused efforts aimed at specific groups resulted in a decrease in the overall gap between the number of male and female voters registered for the elections, dropping from 12.4 million in 2018 to 9.9 million in 2024.

Pakistan’s recent pre election measures were anticipated to quash Imran Khan’s ambitions for power in the populous nation of 240 million.
However, contrary to expectations, supporters of the former prime minister’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Justice Movement) party achieved unexpected success, surprising the nation. Despite Khan’s PTI being officially disqualified from participating following a crackdown, independent candidates aligned with the party achieved significant victories, securing 101 out of 265 seats.
Notably, this election marks the first instance in Pakistan’s history where a leader behind bars has garnered such substantial support, even in the absence of the party’s iconic bat symbol.

5. JI’s Hafiz Naeem Giving Up His Seat
In a significant announcement during a press conference on Monday, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi, declared his decision to step down from his provincial assembly seat, PS-129, in Karachi. His decision stemmed from concerns over discrepancies in the vote count process.
Naeem shared that upon reviewing the official Form 45 and Form 47, which document the polling results, his team observed a discrepancy where his recorded votes had allegedly been reduced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). As a result, he stated that it was not him but the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supported candidate, Saif Bari, who emerged as the victor in PS-129.
This voluntary relinquishment of his seat showcases Naeem’s commitment to integrity and transparency in the electoral process, despite the outcome not aligning with his expectations.
