Anticipating the next episode of a drama not because it is a thrilling, suspense mystery or love story, not because the drama is balanced on the edge of a precipice, edge of the seat, nail biting kind of thriller, but because the messages are wrapped in thought provoking, bite sized humour.
That’s our Kuch Ankahi!
And here’s what the episode brought.
1. Action Hero Moment with Salman

The moment Salman appears from, ahem … thin air to grasp Meena’s husband’s hand midair and the camera closes up on his superhero expressions was a win for Kuch Ankahi & Bilal Abbas fans. The drama had often been criticized for being boring or too slow, oh well, a subtle dose of action helps pepper things up a bit and this one did the honors!
2. Shamo Schooling Meena on marriage rules

Always keep your husband within his limits. Censures Shammo in her emotional outburst, not realizing Agha Jaan is looking on with a startled expression. It just takes a moment for a sober conversation to swerve sideways with a smile, conveying both, the gravity of Meena’s dilemma and the brevity of Shamo’s candid remarks. Agha Jan’s expressions said it all and we can vouch that it elicited many quiet nods in families watching together at home.
3. Sophia’s unmarried status
Not to forget that society names and shames the spinster or divorcee or widow (often) in our midst. That too, in subtle ways. We have often been this route in dramas with toxic Neighbours casting slurred comments on Sophia phuppo like characters but Meena’s husband uttering it the way he did really hit the jackpot. Thank you once again makers, for showing us how conditioning goes much beyond crass remarks but has crept into the mindset and ethos of the common man. Get her married, so she doesn’t cause trouble.

Shamo’s subsequent advice to Sophia followed up on the same in an amicable tone. “Larkian apne ghar mein achi lagti hain.” But this is my house, responds Sophia. Oh the spirit of this character not to be bogged down by all the gentle and harsh pressures around her is monumentally impressive.
4. Aliya’s missing earring and Salman’s mismatched socks

Just as we thought we’re on a serious kite once more, the earrings make a disappearance. And so do the socks – a silent message that Alia is responsive to Salman’s advances but needs more time to sort it out. The Aliya-Salman equation is not one of soppy, cheesy romance, but rather, smart comebacks… but will we see the romance eventually? A top fan question – guess one has to keep watching to get the answer.
5. Shakeel & Sophia’s claims to property
The claims are justified and Agha Jan’s defense of his property and his premise that they should sign off their rights is nor. However, such is the greyness of the character that we can’t see him as enemy, although he is laying claim to something unfairly. Perhaps we see a bit of ourselves or a family member in Agha Jan. Nod if you think you connected, there are many Agha Jan’s amidst us. They are not necessarily bad people, but they too, are slave to the conditioning they have received over the years.

Finally, Saqib Sumeer’s portrayal of the man who wishes to live off his wife, refuses to work, even when given a decent means of livelihood, is reflective of so. So many households. This truth is, in reality, a disease within our society, the reason why so many women are financially independent yet trapped in the shackles of marriage in fear, societal backlash or just plain habit. The thought of a woman raising her children alone or the stigma of divorce keeps her from claiming her freedom.
Kuch Ankahi soldiers on. And we’re grateful and fortunate to get a message packed, thought provoking, laughter inducing drama on the Pakistani screens. Please celebrate it, for all the right reasons!
