Hey Fam is the new drama with a young feel. The first 2 episodes give us a glimpse of the stories we’re set to witness.
1. Rishta Culture
On why it’s important for the couple to meet before a formal proposal and is society moving towards accepting the shift.
The drama has been intentionally positioned as a story aimed at young people navigating the age-old problems of the dated yet still happening uncomfortable yet popular, drawing room ‘rishta’ situations. With a cast featuring Dua Zehra, Halima Ali and Zarrar Khan, conversations about how boy-girl must meet before the entire formal drawing room scene plays out, is a refreshing take on the conversation, especially once we see Dua’s father facilitating the meet-up.
2. The Blogging World
Hey Fam also addresses the role of online blogs in today’s world. The narrative seems to hint at starting conversations on how opening up our personal world to a greater online public affects us and those close to us. What happens when a video or reel goes viral online and how does that play out into the broader scheme of things, especially when a girl is married or engaged and her in-laws might not be too receptive about their daughter in-law having an online presence.
3. Another Track to Break the Monotony
The drama fields a parallel track that maps a crime reporter and a breaking story. How will this connect to the family dynamics in Seerat’s house if at all? Zaviyar Ejaz plays a crime reporter investigating a drug market that could break the news headlines, and also threaten his life. The story is well executed so far; with suspense, thrill and a sense of danger lurking in the frames – an intriguing break from the family dynamics and one that certainly adds to the storytelling so far.
4. Sibling Dynamics that Keep it Interesting
The sibling dynamics between Seerat and her sisters will hopefully keep the story well-paced but not slapstick comedy. The sisters seem to share a close bond. Yet, Seera is not able to come out with what’s really bothering her about the guy interested in marrying her – he seems to be a nice guy but is there a red flag there? The conversations seem relatable at times and we hope the creators can touch on topics that many young people want to see addressed and hopefully, resolved onscreen.
5. Storytelling and Performances
Hey Fam is taking the route of a light twist on serious conversations with performances that delivered from Nadia Afgan, Dua Zehra, Zaviyar Ejaz, Arjumand Rahim, Halima Ali, Naumaan Masood and others. We are looking forward to more from Zarrar Khan. Nadia Afgan especially performs with a signature flow in dialogue, tone and expression with an onscreen chemistry with Naumaan Masood that keeps audiences invested in a narrative that’s about to take off!
