Between the slow burn, angst, separation twists, injustices and constant plots of Tere Bin we still carry hope for Murtasim & Meerab…
Pakistan’s national drama Tere Bin as we might call it of now has us in despair and hope at the same time. What a dilemma?
So close yet so far to Murtasim and Meerab’s love about to bloom. Despite Haya’s successful attempt at vengeance, ruining Meerab’s impression within the family with her conniving attempt at recording her when Marium, our sensible Marium elopes with a guy whose last name is even beyond her, Ma Begum’s disregard for Meerab, (well not like Meerab ever gave herself a chance), Murtasim’s heart still seems to be beating for Meerab.
Still Willing To Give Meerab A Chance
Let’s not forget and give Meerab’s struggle some consideration too, the life she knew up until this point was quite literally snatched from her, her home, her career, her friends, even her parents? The kind of trauma and pain that one suffers is not something to be taken lightly. But at the same time, Meerab did see Murtasim sheltering her, shielding her, speaking up for her in a way even her parents were not able to. Murtasim’s confessions of love were so secure and protective, the least she could have done was to give him an understanding of knowing one’s boundaries, pain points and no go’s.
Murtasim’s Undying Love
Time and again, he kept pleading her to just listen to him for her own good, given he’s lived his entire life in that environment, around those people and knows how to handle them best. He was there as her shield, creating a wall of protection between her and everyone who questioned her and the peace she needed. All Meerab had to do was acclimatize, process her scars and heal. Sure, processing certain things and adjusting to them was a challenge in itself but she herself said she’s done fighting her luck? We all know life is an equation of the good and bad.
Perhaps truly taking time to heal would have made things different but she kept challenging things, rebelling just for the sake of it, trying to change things, not speaking up (unusual for her) when actually needed, case in point letting Ma begum presume she’s pregnant.
Then we even ponder if Murtasim had the ability to be this intuitively tender and to love. Maybe he could have not been so rough with her in the first place? Remeber the thappar? At this point, are we just setting our hopes up because we want Murtasim’s love to actualize and we fear how a broken Murtasim will spend his life all alone? Or perhaps we want to see Meerab give herself a chance to accept the love she deserves (we do too) because if her choice is actually the likes of Rohail, then … umm, good luck to her.
But we know and feel there’s so much more to be said between them and for us to see, so yes, we seem to be quite optimistically hopeful! Why, you ask? Let’s think about a few points below.
Murtasim Setting An Example As A Brother
When Murtasim sets out to bring Marium back, he embraces his distraught sister without any sign of his supposed feudal rage. He brings her back home and not once screams or shouts or makes an example out of her. He didn’t shame her for the choices she’s made, making it a case for his izzat or being hurt about her disrespecting his authority. He was just a scared brother who once saw his sister back home, felt his anger melt away.
Has Murtasim Let Go Once And For All?
Though one instance did leave us unsettled, Murtasim actually distances himself from Meerab for the first time and drives her away to Karachi to the same house he whisked her away from when she was left stranded and crying. “Tumhari azadi tumhay tumhay mubarak ho”.
But this time he leaves her…and that too in the middle of the night, on the street, outside the gate. Is his love for Meerab finally so damaged to the extent he is just broken and numb to leave her alone without even at least waiting for her to go inside? See her off one last time?
Meerab’s Look Of Regret?
Though the kind of grounding, safe and protective love Murtasim has had for Meerab, his sensibilities, promise to love and the ability to bounce back has us hoping for better days for the both of them. It goes without saying, when we watched Meerab’s look of inexplicable hurt and disbelief at him actually drifting away for real this time, we saw a possibly changed Meerab, a Meerab who maybe, just maybe understands the gravity of what she’s done this time, understands what Murtasim meant when he kept requesting her to not meddle and leave things to him and said “sambhal lena” but she wasn’t able to.
Our hearts will keep fluttering until episode next of Tere Bin! What do you think will happen now? Will our hopes for a Meerab-Murtasim union be dashed or lifted?
