Very Filmy is a project of HUM TV by Momina Duraid Productions, directed by the talented Ali Hassan of Fairy Tale and penned by the illustrious Mohammad Ahmed. What more do you want, Pakistani drama viewers, a match made in heaven? Oh wait, that’s what the casting has in store for us. With the lead pair Dananeer Mobeen and Ameer Gilani aka Dania and Rohan taking the “lead’ if we may say, Very Filmy had us smiling at the sticky situations in the very first episode.

The Ramzan drama also boasts a prolific ensemble cast featuring Ali Safina aka mammoo in an entirely new avatar, Ukhano aka Freddy, Bushra Ansari, Nabeel Zuberi, Mira Sethi, Salma Hassan, Ameema Saleem, Deepak Perwani, Syed Adnan Jaffar, Noureen Mumtaz, Tehseen Wajahat, Rabiya Rizwan, Momina Munir, Manal Siddiqui among others.
But it appears that despite its promising beginning, Very Filmy seems to be faltering in meeting audience expectations. The initial allure of a captivating OST and a fresh cast with a unique storyline may have drawn viewers in, but it seems that the drama is struggling to maintain its momentum.

You know, it’s frustrating when a drama promises us these lead characters and then fails to give them the spotlight they deserve. Like, sure, character development takes time, but it has to be interesting, you know? Lately, it feels like they’re just dragging out scenes, focusing too much on side characters and random subplots. And don’t even get me started on Mamoo’s constant rants about inflation! I mean, come on, we tuned in to see Dania and Rohan’s chemistry, not to hear Mamoo complain about the cost of living all the time. We get that when we’re off the screen already?
Now here’s the thing, some viewers have connected the dots with Fairytale or Kuch Ankahi where the leads were not getting much screen time, at least to begin with. But then, the sub plots in Kuch Ankahi took over center stage and were gripping enough to get audiences invested, Fairytale also picked up and Hamza Sohail and Sehar Khan’s onscreen chemistry was undoubtedly inimitable – to take it further, Kuch Ankahi was, after all, a social message driven narrative with multi-messaging at the crux of the storytelling, Very Filmy is none of that. Hence, what the audiences really looked forward to was, the lead pair interaction. Which also reminds us, incidentally, that Ahad Raza Mir and Ramsha Khan’s character in Hum Tum also cried out for more romantic interaction. Hence, although Very Filmy is not an anomaly in the lead pair disappointment era, we really wish that the coming episodes give us more of Dania and Rohan onscreen!
Honestly, it’s gotten to the point where we find ourselves fast-forwarding through episodes. It’s like, if they’re not going to give us what we signed up for, why bother watching the whole thing? We want to feel excited about the next episode and to look forward to seeing how Dania and Rohan’s relationship develops. But lately, it’s just been a let-down.
We hope the creators can get back to what made us love the show in the first place: focusing on the main characters and their journey. That’s what’s going to keep us hooked and coming back for more.
