Will Rohan and Dania make the next “IT” couple on Ramzan Drama nights? This is what went down in episode 1 of Very Filmy!

Very Filmy is a project of HUM TV by Momina Duraid productions, directed by the talented Ali Hassan of Fairy Tale and penned by the illustrious Mohammad Ahmed. What more do you want, Pakistani drama viewers, a match made in heaven? Oh wait, that’s what the casting has in store for us. With the lead pair Dananeer Mobeen and Ameer Gilani aka Dania and Rohan taking the “lead’ if we may say, Very Filmy had us smiling at the sticky situations in the very first episode.
The Ramzan drama also boasts a prolific ensemble cast featuring Ali Safina aka mammoo in an entirely new avatar, Ukhano aka Freddy, Bushra Ansari, Nabeel Zuberi, Mira Sethi, Salma Hassan, Ameema Saleem, Deepak Perwani, Syed Adnan Jaffar, Noureen Mumtaz, Tehseen Wajahat, Rabiya Rizwan, Momina Munir, Manal Siddiqui among others.
The Story
While most dramas throw us a young couple in love with a towering samaaj ki deewar that stops them dead in their tracks, preventing them from fulfilling their love story, Very Filmy does it differently. It is the family who wants these two “not so love birds” to hook up and the pressure is on!
Rohan goes by the initials SRK which, you would think, in a parallel universe, any young girl would gladly embrace as a positive, this is not quite the story for Dania who is not much of an SRK fan (the real one OFC). Rohan on the other hand, wants nothing to do with marriage because, well, he’s a young guy, enjoying the freedom to live life on his own terms, albeit his father pulls the purse strings and hence, he might just have to submit to his will, if he wants to continue his lifestyle.
Very Filmy promises more as a signature Ali Hassan project will most probably show us a show within a show? It was but yesterday that we rooted for Umeed at the game show in Fairy Tale. Both our leads have studied Film making hence, the story will move further and we hope to catch the Very Filmy vibes from the storyline pretty soon!
Add to this, the comic vibes from Ali Safina aka mammoo and Bushra Ansari, grandmother of Dania who’s a force to be reckoned with. Adnan Jaffar as Rohan’s dad seems to be adding a twist to his character too and we hope the rest will fall into Ramzan drama mode as we prepare for some laughter-filled post iftar moments this month.
Yes, there’s lots more to expect from the witty pen of Mohammad Ahmed and we don’t think we’ll be disappointed!
Casting & Characters
Ameer and Dananeer shine as expected. One can’t wait for the two of them to interact together onscreen. From the moment Dania sets eyes on Rohan’s Instagram profile, her eyes zero in for just a moment till she looks away forcibly, to when Rohan sprints across town to tell Freddy about his rishta scene, both Ameer and Dananeer give promising first episode performances. Add to this Bushra Ansari’s dadi vibes and Ali Safina’s comic persona and we have a formula that should, hopefully work. Adnan Jaffer ala chef at home also strikes a pose and we see glimpses of Nabeel Zuberi as Danish, confused, heartbroken and probably a friend in need to Dania.
Stand Out Moments From Episode One
It was great to see direction taking on creative initiatives as both Freddy and Rohan peer into their old bedroom and relive cherished moments from the past. The scene was well picturized and brought a tear to one’s eyes, only to be flipped almost immediately with the no A/C and water electricity problems in the country. That, added to the empty refrigerator and dusty sheets covered furniture brought smile moments. Both Dania and Rohan refused to entertain the thought of even entertaining a peek at the Instagram profiles of their prospective rishta, yet, it was highly gen z relatable to see how our first introduction to most people in today’s world is through the social profiles – aha, better be careful of what you post in the virtual world – you never know who’s watching!
The positive sibling and bestie chemistry was a great add-on in the story, with both Freddy and Rohan, and Neha and Dania manifesting relatable, soft moments that will go a long way in flipping the relationships we see onscreen.
Despite the fact that the drama once more, focused on marriage as the central theme of the story, we’re hoping that’s just a start and Very Filmy will go beyond the obvious!
Location
Set against the backdrop of Azerbaijaan, the screen gave viewers refreshing European feel frames that added a touch of romance to a love story that’s about to begin, but not yet.
Very Filmy is a Ramzan Drama to watch out for as Dania and Rohan seem to be all set to takeover our TV screens this Ramzan. Tell us what you loved most about the episode.
