Find out how Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex paid tribute to Princess Diana during Nigeria tour…

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on their highly anticipated trip to Nigeria following Prince Harry’s brief visit to the UK for the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the Invictus Games which Meghan did not attend. Prince Harry, the 39-year-old Duke of Sussex, attended a special service honoring the event at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8.
Their visit to Nigeria was upon the invitation of the Nigerian, Chief of Defense Staff, marking their first international tour since stepping back from their royal roles in 2020. The tour’s agenda included showcasing the Invictus Games, an initiative founded by Prince Harry in 2014 to support wounded, injured, and sick service personnel through adaptive sports. People reports that Harry and Meghan’s visit to Nigeria followed the country’s debut at the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany, in September 2023.
Their tour reportedly commenced in Abuja and concluded in Lagos. Arriving in Nigeria on Friday, the couple engaged in various activities, including a basketball clinic organized by the charity Giants of Africa, a cultural reception at the State Governor’s House, and a polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered. Many say this carries significant symbolism – ending the visit in Lagos, as Princess Diana and Prince Charles also visited the city during their trip to Nigeria in 1990.
Meghan Markle’s Tribute To Diana: 2 Of Diana’s Accessories She Was Seen Wearing
Meghan showcased an array of elegantly luxurious outfits throughout the tour, some boasted vibrant colors, while some catered to her passion for neutrals. But more than her Californian chic looks, what’s catching everyone’s attention is how she paid tribute to Princess Diana donning two of the Late Princess Of Wales accessories.
During a reception honoring military families on May 10, Markle paid tribute to her mother-in-law by adorning Princess Diana’s gold Cartier Tank Française watch and a previously unseen special necklace that once belonged to the late Princess of Wales – a necklace, with a delicate diamond cross on a gold chain. These subtle gestures were interpreted by royal enthusiasts as a sign of Meghan’s dedication to Diana’s philanthropic legacy.
As reported by People, the necklace was a recent gift from Prince Harry to his wife. Meghan frequently honors Princess Diana through her fashion selections, often wearing jewelry pieces that once graced Harry’s mother, including butterfly earrings and an aquamarine ring. Even Meghan’s engagement ring, crafted by Prince Harry, incorporates two diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.
