How many Meenus do you know? There’s more than one in every village street. Some are not aware that they can fight for their rights, some give up without even trying, but those who manage to brave the world, and often overcome their challenges, do so, because they believe, just like Meenu. Meenu’s father helped a bit, but then again, Meenu’s need to fight for her rights, her resilience in the face of challenges and her die-hard entrepreneurial spirit is winning us over!

Be Smart, Be Meenu
Meenu nursing her blisters and then devising a way to obtain a ride to college, then brain-waving her motorized bicycle idea into existence and arranging for funds to pay for her plan, is entrepreneurship into action. She’s giving ideas to every young girl who walks miles to her school or college and that’s not a good thing? We see some raised (male) eyebrows here. Larkian parh kay kharaab hi hiti hain, aur doosri bachhion ko bhi kharaab karti hain – Girls are corrupted when they study too much, and they corrupt other young girls too. Oh dear Meenu, you’re on the path now!
But on a less sarcastic note, this episode was genius in execution. A medal for both Saife Hassan and Mustafa Afridi for storytelling. Meenu taking her friend on a cart, trying to reach a doctor and save her friend’s life, was heart-breaking. The unstoppable courage of a young, determined spirit shone through. What lies now for her will be tragic we fear, but will also spur her on towards her mission to get a medical degree.
Zard Patton Ka Bunn keeps the awareness campaign going along with the story, as Kashf Foundation‘s narrative pushes forward the dire need for medical personnel with a rapidly growing population. The standard requirement in developed countries is 5 doctors for every 1500 people, whereas in Pakistan we have only one for every 1500.
Dr. Nofil’s Pain
Dr. Nofil’s pain was conveyed in a single, emotive scene. The father-son bond was so moving, again, a rarity in Pakistani dramas to show a close bond between the two. The scene exuded all the emotions we needed to feel in a simple, minimal dialogue portrayal. Hamza Sohail made us feel Dr. Nofil’s unbearable pain and disappointment. It was a hard one to watch.
The Good vs Not So Good Story Of Men
Meenu’s brothers watching in amusement as she tries to carry the bicycle to the rooftop, in an attempt to keep it safe from them, reminded us again that were there are supportive men like Dr. Afzal, the Maulvi sahab and Meenu’s father, there are also those who will try their best to dismiss and arrest the progress of women and girls.
The Rishta Story
Why did Meenu say yes to the Rishta? She has something up her sleeve and we’re curious to know what. Roshan gets a taste of reality. Much as we sympathize with him, we know he has to work hard to achieve what he’s seeking and his journey is one we are invested in as well.
Meenu Makes Us Smile
Meenu giving her father a head massage in the hopes for gaining some money from him was amusing and added a dash of humour to an otherwise tense last few moments. It’s great to see the writer balancing her determination with quick-wittedness and a spirited nature – Sajal Ali is acing the role as usual.
