Ibrahim and Aaliya are slipping into our hearts with every episode, forming a bond that is taking on a beauty of its own; it has respect, fondness, a fierce kind of dependence, yet resilience, a special, trusting friendship and now, a desire to be more than friends.

Mann Jogi: Comfortable To Be Itself And Nailing It, Amidst A Sea Of Pakistani Dramas That Promise More?

Mann Jogi serves a well—curated episode every week, the story moves ahead slow and steady and the drama creators are under no pressure to take heat from other Pakistani dramas in the week who might be throwing us action, suspense, romance and humour plus let’s not forget the drama, at super sonic speed.

No Pressure

Mann Jogi is comfortable to be itself. And perhaps that is why audiences are loving it.

When the hostel owner advises Aliya to let go of Ibrahim and let him fly, it was Aliya’s selflessness that made her try to teach him how to be independent. The resultant chaos was both moving, intense and so endearing. It is only when we experience the fear of losing someone that we truly understand their place in our lives, and this was probably the very first time that our self assured Aliya seemed absolutely shaken. It also made her, and us, realize what Ibrahim meant to her.

The soundtrack with Mann Jogi at the precise moment Aliya hugs Ibrahim hit just the right emotional chords at just the right moment – like we said, a well curated episode indeed.

Creative Storytelling

Ibrahim helping her clean the toilets, she teaching him about electrical wires, him appreciating her cooking skills and then admitting to palming off the gajar ka halwa without giving any to maulvi sahab added a touch of humour and a faint backstory to a couple who were perhaps, nearly total strangers before they were married, but yet, thought or knew enough about each other to start from somewhere.

And aaloo palak and electrical wiring is the way the drama did it – engaging and creative storytelling indeed.

It was great to see the hostel supervisor appearing more human than before. She could see through the purity of these two souls and when she offered to pay them salary after the first month, it was a relief, as we really didn’t need unnecessary negativity in their lives – one Shabbir and his mother are enough really!

A Love Story In The Making

Ibrahim wearing the new clothes, Aliya admiring his appearance and asking for his appreciation, then Ibrahim singing to himself and Aliya humming her own song, was such a priceless way to express a subtle playfulness and flirtation between a newly married couple just getting to know each other and revealing a part of themselves, hinting at a deeper connection.

Ibrahim’s backstory, the earthquake in Kashmir, added another layer to the story. Every episode carries a new reveal and this one too, gave us a peek into the little boy who grew up holding the memory of his mother buried inside his heart, holding on tight, just like he had her hand. The story was truly heartbreaking and perhaps, Aliya holding out her hand for Ibrahim was the only way to bring it full circle and give closure and healing to a young man who had carried the tragedy with him throughout his growing up years.

Shabbir’s Rage

Shabbir will not stop till he finds Ibrahim and Aliya. As the bond between them grows closer, we fear for their safety even more.

It was great to see Anita and her parents wanting the best for Aliya and not just a marriage of compromise. The emotional happiness of a woman is just as important as her physical wellbeing and the story does not let go of this narrative at any moment.

Super Performances

Both Sabeena Farooq and Bilal Abbas Khan as well as the entire ensemble cast are turning out super performances, making Mann Jogi a drama that’s set apart from the rest.
