It’s Aditya Roy Kapur’s birthday! To help you celebrate him, the following movies and a show our on our watchlist for the evening.
He’s charismatic, talented, and our favorite: he is Aditya Roy Kapur. His effortless charm has captured our hearts. From supporting roles to leads and becoming the internet’s crush, Aditya has given us countless performances we’ve grown to love. He has played roles ranging from a heartbroken lover to a carefree yet dependable friend to a heroic figure.

As he celebrates his 39th birthday today, it’s the perfect time to rewatch some of his best works. Take it as a trip down memory lane, highlighting his performances that reflect his talent and career as an actor. Whether you’re a die-hard fan (guilty!) or looking for a great Bollywood movie to watch, here are three Aditya Roy Kapur works you should add to your list:
1. Aashiqui 2

Prepare for an emotional roller coaster with this heart-wrenching love story. Aditya plays Rahul, a musician struggling with a drinking problem. He stumbles upon Aarohi (played by Shraddha Kapoor) and helps her climb the ladder to fame. Their love is tested by Rahul’s personal demons, their passion, and their devotion to each other, culminating in a beautiful yet tragic story that leaves a lasting impact.
The soundtrack, featuring hits like Tum Hi Ho and Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu, has been on our playlist since the movie’s release, giving us the perfect excuse to rewatch it once again.
The movie is directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar. The film stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor, Shaad Randhawa, and Mahesh Thakur/ On a scale on one to 10, I’d give it a 7.75.
2. Daawat-e-Ishq

This lighthearted rom-com takes us to Lucknow and Hyderabad. Aditya, as Tariq aka Taru, brings charm and humor to the story. The film follows Gullu (Parineeti Chopra), who devises a plan to expose the toxic rishta culture in our society—a theme that resonates with many. When she meets Tariq, their story blossoms into a beautiful romance filled with humor and self-discovery.
Parineeti and Aditya deliver a heartwarming performance, and Aditya shines as the fun-loving yet balanced character of Tariq. His passion for food is another reason to give Daawat-e-Ishq a try. It’s directed by Habib Faisal and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Parineeti Chopra, Anupam Kher, and Karan Wahi.
And… it’s a 7.5/10.
3. The Night Manager

Inspired by the British show of the same name, The Night Manager follows Shaan Sengupta (played by Aditya Roy Kapur), an ex-military officer managing a luxury hotel. His life takes a dangerous turn when he encounters Shelly Rungta (played by Anil Kapoor) and becomes entangled in a web of threats, fear, and terror—complete with plenty of action. The high-stakes operation, filled with betrayal and deception, keeps viewers hooked. Aditya brilliantly portrays a layered character—intense, vulnerable, and haunted by the past.
It’s one of the rare times we see Aditya in action-packed sequences, showcasing his calm and composed demeanor while proving his versatility as an actor beyond just his good looks.
The Night Manager is directed by Sandeep Modi and Shridhar Raghavan. The web series stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Tillotama Shome, and Saswata Chatterjee. I give it a solid 8.
If he isn’t already your on-screen crush, these performances are sure to win you over. Aditya Roy Kapur is effortlessly charming, undeniably cute (did we mention cute?), and brings just the right energy to every role. Beyond his heartthrob appeal, he chooses characters that break away from the typical “chocolate hero” mold, offering depth and nuance that make his performances worth a second, third, or even fourth watch—depending on where he ranks on your personal crush scale.
Finally, if you can squeeze in only one of the three recommendations above, I’d wager on The Night Manager because, well if you’re like me and love a mix of emotions and genres, especially thriller, TNM is the perfect fit!
To honor his birthday and celebrate virtually, there’s no better way than a binge-watch session with these recommendations. Fingers crossed for more stellar work from him. And to the Instagram fan pages: keep the edits coming!
