Was it a bird, was it a plane? Noooo it was Faraar’s latest episode that swept across our screens faster than the speed of lightning – Yes, Faraar is back in business, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! From Batish eliminating Bali, to Baggi facing off with Batish – the Bs were in it to win it this episode – though poor Babrik still didn’t make it on the charts unfortunately, simply because, well, he didn’t!

But thanks to some great performances, riveting storytelling and sharp edits, Faraar has hit the top of the Pakistani drama charts this week.
Super performances from the entire cast
When Baggi’s mom tells her to flee, yet again, Iffat Omar delivers yet another super performance as she pretends to be all innocent first, and then, on seeing Shakeela’s brothers find Baggi’s slipper, reacts instantly and raises alarm among the villagers, making good her escape, and keeping her persecutors on the run.
Batish tightening the rope around Bali was an epic scene. Both Faris Shafi and Hamza Ali Abbasi delivered a gripping scene – it was all about the expressions here and they seemed to have understood the assignment. Subsequently, when Faraz arrives with Khushi Mohammad hot on his heels, the expression on Batish’s face, his utter confusion at finding Faraz alive, having just killed Bali, was another epic moment, only to be topped by him flinging the brick onto Khushi’s head, Faraz ducking and then a tense fist fight in which Batish, our hero, won again. It was a tense scene, well enacted, with just the right action moves, and well shot – directors need a shout out here. It was all happening in Faraar.
But if you think we’re done here, the makers gave us more.
Baggi-Batish Face-Off
The Baggi-Batish face-off was one we hadn’t imagined in our wildest dreams. From connecting the dots with two well-placed flashbacks; one that recapped how Bali landed up with Baggi’s photograph in his wallet, and the other, with how Baggi, Batish and Faraz had a recent encounter on the bus, helped cement the present to the past, so that when Baggi came upon Batish and Faraz with Bali’s dead body, the conversation continued from where it had left off.
Batish and Baggi not trusting each other, Batish instantly transforming from a murderer to this well-meaning guy who wants Baggi to trust him and not tell on him, Shakoor’s involvement in the entire ‘Faraar’ planning and then, we assume the three planning to pin the murder of Bali and his partner on Shakeela’s brothers, and letting it slip to Baggi’s mom (the official loudspeaker of the village), was all they needed to make their escape good.
Directorial Wins
The episode threw many directorial wins such as: the visual of the three shadows as they crossed over in darkness, Shakeela’s brothers encountering Bali’s right-hand man in the fields, which helped save Faraz, Shakoor’s entry and Baggi’s connection to him – yet another new character bang in the middle of the narrative, yet relevant to the subsequent plot reveals a well-knit story for which writer Mustafa Afridi deserves all the praise.
The element of surprise is a game-changer for drama makers and appreciation for the creators of Faraar to have not given in to the temptation of garnering views by revealing a major part of the storyline in the promos.
What We Missed?
Babrik walking off into the sunrise with no clue that he’s walking right into a trap, but of course, we hope he and Zallay will end up meeting the three fugitives already on the run.
The questions on our mind: Will Zallay alert the entire ‘Faraar’ band to the perils of Dunki?
How will Fasih, Mohsin Baig and Sadia tie into all of this. And lastly, (and this is the romantic in us), will Batish and Baggi fall for each other, eventually?
Tell us in comments if you’re thinking what we’re thinking!
