It all started with an email in a spam folder. “Can you make a prosthetic arm for my son?” Sometimes, we might carve a clearly marked path for ourselves, but God has other plans. Having clicked on this humble plea over email, unbeknownst to them, Anas Niaz the CEO of Bioniks and his Co Founder were about to fall into God’s plans and say yes!
And there was no turning back then.
What makes a person take an impossible challenge and turn it into a mission? What keeps them going when the odds are stacked against them? What drives them to lose sleep, pour their heart and soul into their work, and push through endless obstacles—all for someone they have never even met?
For Anas and his co-founder, two young tech graduates, the answer lay in an email. An email that almost got lost in the abyss of their spam folder. It wasn’t a job offer or an investment opportunity. It was a plea—someone needed a prosthetic arm. And with one simple but life-altering “yes,” they set foot on a path that would change countless lives, including their own.
Turning Dreams into Reality
Bioniks began as a humble initiative by two engineers from SZABIST, driven by passion more than resources.
They never imagined that they would one day give people something far more valuable: a second chance at life. Today, their AI-powered prosthetic limbs are not just tools; they are hope, independence, and dignity wrapped into one. They have positively impacted the lives of children, students, musicians, and laborers, helping them reclaim dreams they once thought were lost.
Mir Bayan Baloch, a 5-year-old boy who was born without an arm. His father reached out to Bioniks, knowing that they’re a product designing company, and asked if they could make a prosthetic arm for his son. When Anas spoke to Mir Bayan and asked him what kind of prosthetic arm he wanted, his answer was full of innocence and imagination—
He said, “An Iron Man hand.”
That one moment showed how even a small dream can hold so much power for a child.
But when Anas and his team saw the excitement in Bayaan’s eyes, they knew failure wasn’t an option. They immersed themselves in their workspace, working day and night for three straight days—no sleep, no breaks, not even a glimmer of daylight—because they couldn’t bear to disappoint a little boy who had already been dealt an unfair hand in life. And when the moment finally came, when Bayaan lifted his new arm and saw himself as the superhero he always wanted to be, they knew every sacrifice had been worth it.
A Newfound Strength
Then there was Saqib, a young man who had spent most of his life with one hand stuffed safely inside his pocket, out of sight from curious eyes, too afraid of being stared at, too ashamed of what he was missing. When he received his Bioniks prosthetic, it wasn’t just an arm he gained—it was confidence, freedom, and the courage to face the world without fear.
Or the 28-year-old musician, Muaaz Zahid, who once believed his passion for playing the guitar was lost forever after being electrocuted. With his new prosthetic, he picked up his instrument again, his fingers strumming each string with a renewed sense of purpose, his music echoing the heartbeat of a man who had reclaimed a part of himself.
The Moment That Changed Everything
There are moments in life that redefine a person. For Anas, that moment came when one of his recipients had to demonstrate his prosthetic arm at a conference. The AI-powered limb unexpectedly connected to his brain sensors and followed his thoughts with astonishing precision. Before a captivated audience, he picked up a glass of water, raised it to his lips, and took a sip—all on his own.
The room was silent. The young man quietly stepped behind a curtain, out of sight. But when Anas found him, he saw tears streaming down his face.
“Why are you crying?” Anas asked gently.
“Because,” the man whispered, his voice shaking, “I never thought I would be able to do this on my own.”
It was a simple action—picking up a glass of water. Something most of us do without thinking. And yet, for a 28 year old grown man, this simple action meant, it was everything. It was independence. It was dignity. It was life.
Beyond Borders, Beyond Limits
Today, Bioniks is reaching beyond individual lives. In partnership with Heroic Hearts and the Airlink Foundation, Bioniks is ensuring that victims of war in Gaza receive the gift of mobility. Airlink, a nonprofit working with aviation and logistics partners to deliver aid during humanitarian crises, is helping transfer Bioniks prosthetic limbs safely to Cairo and Jordan. From there, Heroic Hearts will take over—installing the limbs at clinics inside Gaza, ensuring professional fittings and follow-ups for those who’ve lost everything.
Furthermore, in Ukraine in the aftermath of war, the need for upper-limb prosthetics is painfully high. Bioniks is currently collaborating with local partners to provide these life-changing limbs to Ukrainian clinics and survivors—rebuilding lives where the scars of conflict run deepest.
Just — years from their first successful fitting, Bioniks has grown into a global name in AI-powered prosthetics. But the soul of the company remains unchanged—humble, hopeful, and hungry to do more.
And in a feat that stunned the world, Bioniks also helped fit a prosthetic leg onto a camel that had been mercilessly shot, proving that compassion and innovation know no bounds.
In a very short time from its inception 2016, Bioniks’ work has been recognized globally. They have won awards such as the Pride of Pakistan Award 2024 by ISPR, the FIME Show International Medical Expo Innov8 Startup Competition 2024, and the Future Star Competition at GITEX GLOBAL. They were also honored at the Zero Project Conference 2025 (#ZeroCon25) for their impactful work in accessibility and inclusion, recognized by the AI for Good Factory by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union,Switzerland, and named among the 100 Meaningful Businesses 2023. Hafeez ur Rehman rides 70 kilometers a day, no longer limited by his missing limb. A mother cradles her newborn baby in both arms for the first time. And a young artist, once unable to paint, now brings her canvas to life, creating masterpieces with a renewed sense of purpose.
