4 Drama Scenes We Loved this Week

Although the drama season isn’t in peak form these days, some stories are drawing to an end and others are about to spin into climax, very few are hitting the high notes. Also, the past week was Eid weekend, which meant no Shirin Farhad.

But not to disappoint Pakistani drama fans, we still have 4 drama scenes for you that deserve a special mention.

Read on!

1. Doosra Chehra And Zara’s Mirror Selfies

Doosra Chehra

When Zara, played by Sanam Saeed gazes at her reflection in the bathroom mirror, her look says it all. The anxiety as she scrutinizes her face, looking out for any sign of wrinkles, nervously massaging her chin to keep the telltale signs of age – a natural process, from revealing itself.

In that simple, yet scary Zara spoke to so many women and perhaps men too, who post on social media as regularly as they sip a cup of coffee, how does their face age over time, the wrinkles, the fine lines, the threat of younger faces replacing them?

The fear is real and Sanam Saeed brought the moment home with sharp direction from  Shehrazade Sheikh. The scene was a sure winner.

2. Dastak And Shani’s Guilt-Laden Expressions

When Moiz asks Shani if he met a stranger or received a gift from someone, or if he’s hiding something from his mother, it was a brief conversation with minimal words, but Shani’s expressions spoke volumes.

The child actor, Aryan, pretending to be busy toying with his book, was taking it all in with bated breath, and instantly denied that he has anything with him. The expressions were so telling yet so spot-on, the conversation so innocent yet layered with everything the audiences knew.

Well done on this scene Team Dastak. From the initial dialogues to the conversation after, where Moiz sits down to play with Shani and the mood changes instantly was a smooth execution from start to finish.

3. Parwarish And The Conversation That Edited Its Way Onto Our Screens

When Waleed spoke to Maya’s father, and Maya spoke to her mother, the conversation addressed both points of view in real time. Waleed asking the question and Maya responding in another dimension.

The scripting, direction, editing, and performances raised the bar on drama scenes where a conversation that often plays out in our head as we watch it from one side, allowed us to an instant response from the other.

When Waleed says: “She didn’t stand by me,” Maya retorts: “How could I have supported him, did they ask me before they started fighting, they both didn’t care about me.” When Shaheer says, “She doesn’t like him (Wali).” Maya responds: “I like him, but I have asked him not to contact me.” When Maya says, “I didn’t betray anyone.” Waleed asks: “Is this not betrayal?”

The conversation flowed flawlessly, delivering answers even before the questions could pop up in our head, almost second-guessing them. Well done Team Parwarish, a well conducted scene, almost like an opera with the conductor modulating every musician to play his piece in perfect rhythm and synchrony!

4. But Hold On. Parwarish Surprised Us Again Later In The Episode, And It Was Impressive.

The showdown between Sadia and Shaheer, Sadia shielding her daughters, Shaheer, his eyes bloodshot, his emotions raging was a climactic moment in the episode when viewers sat right on the edge of their seat, not able to take their eyes away even for a split second.

Sadia’s dialogues were equally impactful, hitting deep down into the heart of the moment, when she screamed out at Shaheer in a scene that was both gripping and traumatic: “Why does she need another person when her father is alive?”

“You, her father, gave Waleed the courage to come and force Maya to do things against her will under our own roof.”

And that’s all the words needed to trigger a shift in Shaheer’s stance about his daughter – the revelation that he had been blind to the safety and care of his own daughters, and failed from making them feel sheltered and safe in their own home.

The camera angles, pitch and tone of the actors and the placing of the scene, just at the precise moment in the story when audiences were frustrated at Sadia silence, spoke volumes for how it went down with viewers. Applause for the entire team and Bakhtawar Mazhar aka Sadia, Maya’s mom, in particular for delivering a scene that resonated with many, and echoed with the trauma of what she had been going through as the mother of a daughter who had been wronged, repeatedly.

And that’s all folks, tell us which Pakistani drama scene spoke to you the most, and drop us a comment below.
