Last night’s episode of Parwarish hit the high notes again. But it wasn’t just Samar Jafri’s vocals that took us away, it was also the conversation between Sadia and Maya – mother and daughter, that spoke volumes! The dialogue underlined trust, communication, confidence yet also, a mother’s concern for her daughter’s wellbeing.

Let’s Talk About Maya’s Mother In Parwarish: The Character Arc Every Daughter Wants!

Sadia’s character arc in Parwarish has been heartfelt, both believable and uploifting – what every daughter wants! Here’s why Sadia’s words to Maya came from a place of wisdom as a parent, concern as a mother of a young daughter and love, for the same daughter whose dreams she holds so dear – don’t all mothers?

Maya meeting up with Wali, Maya walking in at home, Maya telling her mom she got delayed at college with the lab assignment, raise your hand if you related to Maya. But what turned the conversation on its head, what pushed the envelope in this dialogue exchange between mother and daughter, was the way Sadia, Maya’s mom, addressed the situation.

When we expect a character’s journey in a story to be believable and exemplary, the makers at Parwarish sure knew what we’re talking about. Sadia’s journey has been one that navigated a very dark place, a point where she felt she almost lost her daughter, one of repentance, self questioning, and the inevitable guilt.

But Sadia made sure she would fix things, Sadia channeled her regret and pain and guilt to draw out a better, in fact, we wouldn’t be wrong in saying, the best version of herself, making motherhood a message for so many mothers who have a Maya at home, who struggle to find the right words to tell their daughter – I love you, but I also care about you, I want you to find love, but I also want you to save yourself, not forget your dreams and most importantly, your self-respect.

In that brief moment when mother-daughter connected onscreen, Sadia said all that to Maya. It was perhaps the most heartfelt conversation we witnessed in a Pakistani drama in a very long time – it was honest, guided by wisdom, love, fear and yet, a deep sense of trust.

When Sadia told Maya, if you like Wali, I’m sure he’s a good guy, meet him, but meet him in a public place, not alone, do not let those who have defamed you earlier guide your actions now, you are wiser and better than that, we, your father and mother, trusted you as your parents, and will continue to trust you, and lastly and perhaps, the most significant message – do not lose sight of your dreams, your goal, to become a doctor.

And just like that, a mother gave her daughter the key to always open her heart to the one person in the world who will always have her best interests at heart – her mother. To always speak the truth and never act in a way that will make her lose her self respect in her own eyes. The confidence that Sadia gave her daughter is a message for all parents, to keep the lines of communication open between your child and you, always encourage dialogue, trust them, and when you listen to them, they too, will listen to you.

You get back what you give to a relationship and perhaps, parenting is one job where Sadia’s wisdom might help many parents do their job better!

Parwarish continues to send out critical messages in bite-sized conversations – a dialogue exchange that keeps us thinking way after the episode is over. Both Bakhtawar Mazhar and Aina Asif delivered a moving performance throughout the scene and the makers must be lauded for giving audiences an enlightened conversation in a society where parenting can make all the difference!
