The drama fails to show us a way forward for Sania. What will she do next — as a doctor, a mother, and a wife — despite the fact that the drama was called Doctor Bahu and championed the cause of married female doctors throughout?
Is Salman now okay with Sania working? We simply do not know.
Salman has anger management issues and deep-rooted insecurities from how his father treated him since childhood. These cannot be resolved with a single apology. He has apologized and begged so many times earlier in their relationship — what is the guarantee he will not revert to his old self again? The next time there is a conflict between his career and Sania’s, how will he choose to react?
As always, Salman took the easy way out, never truly being there for Sania and the baby. Dropping off presents at the door — is that really enough to fulfill your role as a supportive husband and father?
Why couldn’t the drama show him arranging Sania’s residency, telling her to go ahead while he steps up to tend to their baby and household? If the intention was to show a reconciliation between Sania and Salman, why couldn’t it show actual, practical steps from Salman that would have made Sania giving him another chance feel valid — rather than coming across as yet another woman accepting her flawed husband simply because she loves him?
All of this, when Sania almost died from the stress caused by Salman and his family.
And then there is Sania’s father — pressuring her subtly under the guise of not forcing his opinion on her. A single sentence took us back a hundred years. Your daughter almost died, and that is what you choose to say to her?
“Bachay kay liye sirf maan hi nahin tarapti, baap kay seenay mein bhi dil hota hai.”
Then perhaps that father should have shown Salman how to be a better husband and father.
And let us not forget Faizan and Amber. After the cheating, the betrayal, and the cruelty towards Minna — they get a happy ending and a wholesome family life. What a sad and deeply disappointing message to send.
In its final episode, Doctor Bahu undid everything it had spent weeks building. It raised its voice against so many wrongs — and then quietly sat back down.
What happened in that last episode? We are still at a loss, trying to make sense of it all.
