Do we need a woman to direct a woman’s stories? Well, apparently, yes – especially when it comes to Working Women! Yasra Rizvi & Bee Gul join forces for this one.
The title Working Woman might sound ordinary for many, but the term carries multiple undertones in our society. She’s a working woman, will she make a good wife, a good mother? How will she balance family & work? Will she support the family as well? Is she too independent? Too used to having her way? Oh no wonder she’s so dominating!
Not sure what the 2 women behind the project will focus on, but we’re sure some of the ahem … ground breaking thoughts above (yes, sarcasm intended) might find a voice? We also hope the project will dig deeper to unveil many ground realities we gloss over because – well, we don’t really want to address them – e.g. a working woman in a marriage? Or, why some working women don’t or can’t get married?
Since the announcement by Yasra Rizvi about her upcoming project simply titled Working Woman, the internet has been taken by storm and the collaboration of the talented actress and now a director, Yasra Rizvi and the adroit writer, Bee Gul has become the talk of the town. And why not? Both women are exceptionally talented in their areas of expertise and we would love to see what the two brilliant minds have in store for us.
Women In Control Of Their Stories – Finally!
If Bee Gul is writing it, Kashif Nisar is directing it. Do we need women directing for women? Well, we’re about to find out how this narrative will reveal itself as 2 women get together to give us a ‘piece of their minds’ – literally! That should be fun!

Yasra Rizvi
Yasra, of recent, astonished audiences by delivering some stellar onscreen roles. We have seen Yasra Rizvi in Manto’s Thanda Gosht, then in Churails as Jugnoo – a complex character yet beautifully portrayed, and then in Dunk where she plays the supporting role of a wife of an alleged sexual harasser. We also see her in Dil Na Umeed Se Tu Nahi – riveting performance there!

And as far as Bee Gul is concerned, she needs no introduction. We are also well-acquainted with her currently on air Raqeeb Se, infact, crushing on it! She has written some exceptional screenplays such as Dar Si Jati Hai Sila for which she won Lux Style Award for Best TV Writer. We cannot wait to see what she has in store for us now!
Women centric content will hopefully bring a positive side of women rather than the typical roti dhoti mazloom aurat syndrome.
It is important to highlight that women-centric content also carries many diverse narratives, and some of them involve men too … will we be able to view the complex intricacies of this one? If anyone can do it, Bee Gul & Yasra can!
Though, we do not know if it is a drama serial or a web series, we are looking forward to it nevertheless!
