The first instalment of the animated series ‘Team Muhafiz’ came to an end and here are five things that we loved!

A collaborative effort between ISPR and Geo Entertainment, Team Muhafiz is an adaptation of a comic book series that was launched in Pakistan in 2015. It features teenage characters fighting social evils in our society. The series aims to inspire the youth by clearly highlighting the problems plaguing our society today, and invoking in them a national narrative of peace, harmony, and progress. It is a 10-episode series that is expected to air in 2 parts, with each part spread over 5 episodes. Many notable names of our industry have contributed as voiceover artists in the series including Sajal Aly, Dananeer Mobeen, Ahsan Khan, Wahaj Ali, and others! The first part of the series has been released on YouTube and we’re already fans! Here are five things that we loved about the series!
1. The Character Development

Each character in the series is given ample screen time and the viewers are given a background story of each character that makes us relate with them and understand them better. Their banter, them having second thoughts, joking around to blow off the steam while carrying out all their superhero duties add a touch of relatability to their characters and make them more convincing and appealing.

2. The Animations
The animations were a cut above! Kudos to the head of animations Owais Nasir and the art director Syed Salman Nasir for doing such an incredible job!
3. Background Score
The background score is catchy and upbeat! Ali Mustafa, is the one who deserves a shout-out and appreciation as he’s the main guy, who’s done the sound. We appreciate how the series has its own OST. ‘Dil Fatah Karein’ is sung by Soch The Band, Karakoram and Young Stunners and the lyrics are penned by Asim Raza and Adnan Dhool and is directed by Riyan Durrani. With a combination of rap and some feisty vocals, this one deserves to be played time and again!
Listen To The Song For Yourself!
4. The Sub-Plots
Each episode touches upon a different issue present in our society. The first episode follows the story of our heroes fighting goons that threaten to forcefully extort money from shopkeepers (hence, the title Parchi for the episode). The second episode goes on to highlight the problem of drug consumption prevalent in our community while the third one highlights the illegal cutting of precious trees in Northern areas for timber. Lastly in the forth and fifth episode, it is time for the final showdown! Our heroes try to prevent a terrorist attack while dealing with corruption.
Ahh, definitely a lot to digest in one go!

5. A Touch Of Patriotism
The series tends to forge feeling of patriotic sentiments in a subtle manner. While, the show is evidently about the fight between good and evil, distinction between right and wrong, it still does not become preachy and the audience is (thankfully) eschewed from the long monologues and instead are given messages in a more subdued and toned-down manner. It instills patriotism and love for our country without being in our face.
Team Muhafiz attempted to fill in the much needed void of giving our youth local super heroes with powers that might resonate with them. The aim is to go above & beyond the superficial, helping address societal issues that need to be taken head on, with a subtle approach. Perhaps a youth oriented show was the right way to go. What’s your take?
Do give this one a watch as we await season 2!
