FZM Boutique Fitness’ Bali Retreat was the first international bootcamp of its kind in Pakistan. Led by Celebrity Trainer Fatima Zara Mallick and hosted at the Grand Hyatt Bali, the luxury getaway was a curated wellness experience for FZM’s discerning clientele. Here, FZM shares with us her personal favourite moments from the retreat!

1. Curating the workouts for my Amazons

I had been planning my retreat alongside Raaheen Ali Khan (Elysium Luxury Travel and Events) for months! But executing the plan, conducting 6am beach workouts, studio personal trainings and excursions was an experience like no other. Coaching clients in a place like Bali gave me so many more options to get creative and innovative with training styles. From hiking to running against the tide during conditioning drills – we did it all!

2. The Food!

For the retreat, I collaborated with the chefs at the Grand Hyatt and designed calorie controlled yet delicious meals for my Amazons. There was a range of seafood options on the menu along side super food enriched salads and raw desserts. Each meal was meant to express the different flavors that Bali has to offer. Even though the meals were super clean, they tasted like heaven…and I found myself constantly looking forward to the next one!

3. The Spaaaa!

The entire retreat felt like a luxury bootcamp/ ongoing girls trip that juxtaposed gruelling training with self-indulgence and elaborate spa treatments, There was no yoga or meditation … it was burpees and bubble baths all the way

4. Hi-Tea Like a Celeb!

Retreat attendee Zainab Chottani’s fabulously decadent fashion hi-tea at the Mulia Resort (a favourite with celebs like Angelina Jolie and Shahrukh Khan), was a treat. We all got to play dress up in ZC’s 2019 lawn collection while drooling over three-tiered dessert tables: each Amazon had her own dessert bar! It was the stuff of dreams. (Thank God for cheat days!)

5. The Fashion Shoot!

Personally, I really enjoyed shooting an editorial fashion feature in Bali for Zainab Chottani. As a model, it was my first international shoot and I can’t wait for the pictures to come out!

Places to Go in Bali

6. Free time!

I’m glad I gave the Amazons and myself hours to independently explore and immerse themselves in Bali! My fondest memories are of strolling along the chaotic sidewalks of Ubud, the spiritual and cultural heart of Bali.

7. Bali Swing!

Perhaps the most Instagrammed activity in all of Bali, the infamous swing is nevertheless a must! The surge of adrenaline you feel as soon as you are hurled high up amidst the Palm trees is electric and addictive! And the pictures last a lifetime.

Monkey in Bali, Indonesia

8. The Monkey Attack!

A monkey attacked my Head Trainer Komal Malik at the Ubud Monkey Forest. The worst part? He was trying to pull my bag off her shoulder!! Thankfully, help arrived and saved us from the wrath of the four-limbed beast!

9. The Mount Batur Climb!

We began the 4 hour trek up at 2am … to reach the summit in time for sunrise. Throughout the upward trudge I hated myself for adding the hike to the itinerary. However, once we reached the top, the panorama was hypnotic and magical. Batur is an active volcano of incomparable beauty.

On the way down, we stopped for a therapeutic soak in Batur’s regenerative natural springs.

Monitor Lizard in Bali

10. The Monitor Lizard!

You might think I’m crazy for saying this but I loved feeding the monitor lizard at our resort. We all had private villas with Koi ponds and manicured gardens. I happened to befriend a monitor lizard living in my Koi pond and enjoyed feeding the slithery little thing everyday! The monitor lizard is a miniature cousin of the Komodo Dragon, the largest lizard on Earth. The latter is native to Indonesia and is found at Komodo Island, a one hour flight from Bali
