People come and go. That’s the sad part of life. 2022 took away from us – a few legends, some too young and untimely. Here’s a FUCHSIA tribute to all those who left us this year.

1. HRH Queen Elizabeth

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the Queen of The United Kingdom and died at the age of 96 on September 8th 2022 at Balmoral. The royal family tweeted “ The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon”. Her reign lasted for approximately 71 years, considered to be the longest for any British monarch and that of any female in the history.

2. Lata Mangeshkar – The Nightingale Of India

The ‘Nightingale of India‘ died at the age of 92 on February 6, 2022. Spanning a career of over seven decades, the songs she sung had made her the most influential, respected and acknowledged singer of the subcontinent. Having a fan following from all over the world where Hindi/Urdu is understood this queen of melody lost her life battle to Covid-19.

3. KK -Taking Us Back To The Good Old Days

Another famous Indian playback singer KK died on 31st May 2022. He suffered a heart attack after his performance at a college festival in Calcutta, India. He has delivered multiple hits like Such keh raha hai Deewana, Tarap tarap ke is dil se, Aankhon main teri ajab si adayen hain, Kya mujhe pyaar hai, Yaaron dosti etc. KK left us too soon, and he will be missed dearly by his fans. he lives through his songs that are a reminder of the heartfelt vocals that will live on forever.

4. Aamir Liaquat Hussain – King Of Ramadan Transmissions

Pakistan’s famous Naat Khuwan, Islamic Scholar, ex Federal Minister, politician, debater, TV Host and Anchor was found dead at his residence on 9th June 2022. This 50 years old televangelist and trend setter, ruled our TV screens with his famous shows like, Ramadan transmissions and game show Inaam Ghar, Aamir Liaquat became a household name after premiering with Aalim Online and also known as the king of TRPs. Ramadan Shows wouldn’t be the same without Aamir Liaquat.

5. Arshad Sharif – The Voice Of Reason

Well-known investigative journalist and anchorperson killed in Kenya. Known for his unique style of conducting a news show, Arshad Sharif was adored and respected by his peers, fans and viewers. His death was announced on Twitter by his wife, Javeria Siddiqui. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.

6. Ismail Tara – The Highlight Of Fifty Fifty

Comedy show Fifty Fifty fame actor and comedian Ismail Tara died at the age of 73 on November 25th,2022. A five times Nigar Award winner as the best comedian. He also appeared on several stage shows, TV serials and Lollywood movies. He will be remembered with a smile by his fans to whom he gifted many moments of laughter and entertainment.

7. Bilquis Edhi – The ‘Mother Of Pakistan’

On the 15th of April, the wife of humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, Bilquis Edhi passed away at the age of 74 after a brief hospitalisation.  According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, she had been ill for the past month. Bilquis Edhi spent more than six decades of her life serving humanity in need. In recognition of her services to humanity, she was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz by Pakistan, the Lenin Peace Prize by Russia, as well as the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice in 2015.

8, Aaron Carter – Music Lives Forever

American singer and rapper Aaron Carter was only 34 years old when he was found dead at his home in California unconscious on November 5th 2022. He received fame as a teen pop singer in the late 19990s. He has six music albums to his credit and his last music album Blacklisted was released two days after his death.

9. Bob Saget – Full House Will Never Feel The Same

The Full House actor was found dead in his hotel room at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando. He died at the age of 65 on January 9th 2022. Comedy, plays, there was nothing this man couldn’t do! He will be remembered for his gentle demeanour and a character who sent out major single dad goals to audiences throughout a generation and beyond!

10. Nayara Noor – Bulbul-e-Pakistan

Bulbul-e-Pakistan, a.k.a., Nayyara Noor was the heart of many musical mehfils & mushairas in a time when Pakistan’s literary, art & cultural circles flourished. Her most popular ghazal was Ae Jazba-e-Dil Gar Main Chahoon penned by song & naat writer Behzad Lucknavi for which she won many awards.

11. Abdullah Khattak – Gone Too Soon

Abdullah Khattak was a Pakistani vlogger mostly known for his food, travel, & academic content on YouTube and Instagram. Born and raised in Peshawar, Abdullah was a third-year med student from Aga Khan University, Karachi. The 21-year-old had an avid fan following that indulged in his content for entertainment & education-related queries. His untimely demise was due to a road accident, as announced by his friend.

12. Sidney Poitier – Setting The Benchmark

Poitier made histroy as the first ever African American to win an Oscar. He beautifully incorporated taboo topics and tried to break the stereotypes set through his work such as The Defiant Ones, Lilies of the Field and In the Heat of the Night. If you’re reminiscing about him this holiday season, go watch Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner Tonight and take a walk down a sensitive, ground-breaking performance from the actor who changed mindsets in gentle ways.

13. Leslie Jordan – Spreading Smiles Through Tough Times

From entertaining and making audience smile through his Instagram posts and videos, to playing the iconic Beverley Leslie on Will & Grace, Jordan left a positive mark on us all! We will miss his positive presence onscreen!

14. Coolio – Resting In ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’

Widely known for ‘Gansta’s Paradise’, Coolie, real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr., shocked fans worldwide after he was found unconscious. He started his career with the groups WC and the Maad Circle but his solo venture thrived. ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ is his most streamed song and still heard worldwide today!

15. Sidhu Moosewala – The Last Ride

In May, an unfortunate incident took place, when Sidhu Moosewala, famed for ‘Jatt Da Muqabala’, ‘295’, and ‘Last Ride’ was shot in Punjab, India. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately, breathed his last during treatment. His death came as a shock not only to Indians but also to Pakistanis who were extremely fond of his music.

16. Raju Srivastav – The King Of Comedy

Raju was an Indian comedian, actor and politician. He joined Bollywood in the 1980s and starred in  Baazigar, Bombay to Goa, Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya. He was titled “The King of Comedy” in the show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and held a huge fanbase in stand up comedy too. His work will forever be cherished!

17. Rasheed Naz – Pakistan’s Finest

Rasheed sahab entered the world of acting in 1971 and worked in many  Pashto, Hindko and Urdu projects. He played the role of Maulana Tahiri in Shoaib Mansoor’s ‘Khuda Ke Liye‘, and also ventured into Bollywood with the film Baby costarring Anupam Kher and Akshay Kumar.

18. Kirstie Alley

This American actress rose to fame from NBC sitcom Cheers as Rebecca Howe aired from 1987 to 1993 for which she received an Emmy award. After that she went on and starred in many movies and television shows including Shoot to kill, Veronica’s Closet, It Takes Two, Look Who’s Talking, Village of the Damned, Star Trek II and the list goes on and on. She lost her battle to the terminal disease of cancer and died at the age of 71 on December 5th.

19. Bappi Lahiri – Disco King

Bappi ji’s real name was Alokesh Lahiri. He rose to fame after releasing the songs for the film Disco Dancer. He introduced a new genre and style in Bollywood and that became an instant hit among the masses. He was not only a composer but a singer too and the voice for many of his originals. His hits included Tune Maari Entriyaan,’ ‘Asalam-e-Ishqum, from Gunday, Oo La La and many more.

20. Stephen Laurel Boss Aka ‘tWitch’

One of our favorite Dj’s, that’s for sure. His contagious laughter made The Ellen Show more special, his dance skills were unmatched and he had the cutest family too. Unfortunately, ‘tWitch’ Boss took his own life last week due to depression and it was a wakeup call for us too, especially to check up on our loved ones. Our love goes out to his beautiful family.

21. Rehman Malik

Senior politician and federal investigative agency officer, Abdul Rehman Malik died on February 23. He served as a senator and former interior minister under PPPs government. His health deteriorated after he came in contact with the deadly Covid 19 in Islamabad. He also received an honorary doctorate degree from Karachi University.

22. Dr Mehdi Hasan

Dr. Mehdi Hasan was a left-wing journalist, media historian, and dean of mass communication at Beaconhouse National University. He was one of Pakistan’s most prominent expert of communication with a specialization in political analysis. He did his masters in journalism and PhD in mass communication from Punjab University. He died at the age of 85 on 23rd February in Lahore. He was awarded “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” for his services in literature and journalism from the President of Pakistan in 2012.

23. Masood Akhtar

Masood Akhtar was considered to be one of the most versatile actors in our industry. He has appeared in a number of television shows, movies and theatre play. He joined a bank after his graduation and also holds a law degree. He passed away on March 5th, 2022 after fighting lung cancer. He also received the Pride of Performance Award from the Government of Pakistan in 2006.

24. Imran Aslam

While many knew him as a journalist, and the first editor of the evening news daily Star, he was also the pen behind the Pakistani cinematic release Parey Hut Love and delved into literary and journalistic spheres throughout his career, enriching our writing and intellectual space. began his journalistic career as the editor of an English-language newspaper The Star in the 1980s. In the 1990s, he was editor of The News, a Karachi English daily newspaper.
In 2015, he became the Group President of GEO Television Network, a subsidiary of Jang Group. During his tenure as president, Geo Network launched its channels under his leadership. He had been the president of Geo TV Network since 2002.
He was undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Karachi and died on 2nd December 2022. We will miss his contributions dearly and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

25. Asad Rauf

Asad Rauf

Died at the age of 66, Asad Rauf was Pakistani cricket player and umpire. He was a member of ICC Elite Umpire Panel from 2006 to 2013. He was accused of spot-fixing and match-fixing of IPL matches by the BCCI and got banned for five years. He died due to cardiac arrest on 14th September 2022 in Lahore.

26. Pele

Among the most successful and famous sports figures of the 20th century, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pele died on 29th December 2022 after a long battle with cancer. The king of Football, Pele was labelled “The Greatest” by FIFA, was a Brazilian forward player, also regarded as the greatest of the time was a former Minister of Sports of Brazil. Born to a poor family, who couldn’t afford to buy a football, Pele played with a sock filled with newspapers and got noticed for his exceptional footballing skills. He helped Brazil win the Football World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970. Pele’s death is a huge loss for his fans and for the football world.

Other famous personalities include Olympian Manzoor Hussain Jr and novelist-turned-politician Bushra Rehman also left us in 2022

They may have left us, but they’re in a better place. Team FUCHSIA extends our love and condolences to their families. We hope their legacy will live on.
