Together, this duo has been able to carve a niche from the onset. 7th Sky Dramas represent a range of stories, from family-centric dilemmas, to Gen Z challenges. Bayhadh is the new drama on the block that takes on the story of love, parenting, and class differences in society.
Here’s what you need to know about the story:
Sonia and Hamza are in love and despite their obvious disparity in lifestyle, they are planning a life together. But unbeknownst to them Sonia’s mother will not accept a son in-law who does not match the wealth and social background she belongs to. Where mostly, fathers are seen as the main roadblock in the love marriage, it is Yasmeen played by Rubina Ashraf who is conspiratorial, budge-proof, and super controlling in how things are done around the house.
Add to that, Hamza’s neighbour Jugnu, played by Saboor Aly who has been a lifelong friend, now realizes that she is, in fact in love with Hamza too.
And so begins the love triangle…
What’s new then, you ask?
Performances are key to making any story thrive. It’s not the story but how you tell it. Here, Affan Waheed as Hamza, Madiha Imam as Sonia and Saboor Aly as Jugnu are essaying their characters with relatability. Hamza aptly plays the boy next door with a true to life feel. Sonia, cornered, yet determined to overcome her mother’s resistance, makes us wonder what she’ll do next. Jugnu, sways between divulging her secret to Hamza, and we wonder when she’ll actually spill the beans?
Wait on, there’s more. But we don’t want to give you any spoilers! Sonia has more on her plate than she can manage, and a subtle hint is the character of Osama Tahir aka Taimoor!
Special mention to Srha Asgr’s character who essays Sonia’s younger sister, Maria. We love watching her onscreen and hope her role takes on more substance.
The drama is poised at a crossroads at this moment but we won’t spoil it for you.
Writing, Direction and More
Characters are well-fleshed out and where Sonia is assertive and outspoken, Hamza is short tempered and super emotional, and Jugnu has underlying unresolved issues within her own household. Although the main antagonist – Yasmin is overwhelmingly overpowering, the conflict in this intense parent-daughter relationship will propel the drama forward.
It is good to see Pakistani dramas stepping outdoors and not restricting screentime to interiors. Festivities within the home have an attention to wardrobe and lighting details that elevates the entire viewing experience.
And that’s a wrap for 4 episodes in Bayhadh! Go watch if you’re up for a breezy 30 min, twice a week, the drama airs on Geo Entertainment every Wednesday and Thursday!
