Brad Pitt and Joaquin Phoenix join The Voice of Hind Rajab as executive producers – here’s why it’s significant.

In 2024, the story of Hind Rajab shook the entire world. For many, the five-year-old’s desperate final calls from Gaza were a wake-up call to the sheer brutality civilians continue to face. Now, her story is being retold in The Voice of Hind Rajab, a film that has brought together Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara and others as executive producers.
Directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, twice an Academy Award nominee, the film reconstructs the hours when Hind was trapped inside a car targeted by Israeli fire, surrounded by the bodies of her family. Using actual call recordings with the Red Crescent alongside scripted re-enactments, Ben Hania blends documentary and fiction in a way that makes Hind’s final pleas impossible to ignore.
The film will premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival on September 3 before heading to Toronto. Backing the project are Plan B’s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, alongside Alfonso Cuarón and Jonathan Glazer, with institutional support from Film4 and MBC Studios. Distribution is already secured across Europe, with CAA Media Finance handling North America. The cast includes Saja Kilani, Motaz Malhees, Clara Khoury and Amer Hlehel.
What makes the involvement of Brad Pitt, Phoenix, Mara, and others so significant is not simply their fame, it’s their decision to lend global visibility to Hind’s story at a time when Gaza is still under fire and international outrage is fractured. Their support means this film cannot be ignored or quietly buried.
Her story is not just about one child. It is a reminder of the Palestinian fight, of the countless innocent lives lost from 2023 onwards and long before. Now, as famine is officially declared in Gaza, The Voice of Hind Rajab feels even more urgent. Perhaps this film is exactly what we need – to confront the reality of what is happening and to ensure Hind’s voice continues to echo.
