What Chaudhry & Sons Is All About
Chaudhry & Sons is a production of Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment aired every evening on Har Pal Geo TV. Directed by Wajahat Husain and penned by writer Saima Akram Chaudhry. Their immaculate production quality and larger-than-life frames speak volumes and we saw that with last year’s much loved Ramazan drama Ishq Jalebi as well. You can watch Chaudhry & Sons every day at 9 pm on Geo Entertainment for some laughter therapy!
Geo Entertainment’s Chaudhry & Sons is giving us reasons to smile, sit back and enjoy Ramazan with a story that’s keeping it light, yet sending out messages as the Chaudhry family warms up mid month to give us Billu, Pari, Shakir, dada, dadi and so much more!
The recipe for a laughter-filled 40 mins throws in joint family shenanigans coupled with absurd situations, laugh out loud moments, and a sprinkling of romance – from the very overtly expressive Paro with eyes on Tashi to the even more shamelessly infatuated Shahrukh and the ever-hopeful Tooba, to budding and vintage romance between Dr. Salma & Dada Dildaar, what’s there not to like about a family drama that pretends to be nothing more (or less), than a bagful of comedy?
The story promises something for everyone in the family. If you’re a dadi watching this one, Begum Malika will make you laugh, if you’re a granddaughter, you’ll nod your head at the endearing Pari-Dadi relationship, if you’re just plain into desi rap, Billu will tweak your funny bone as he brings raw charm and energy to the screen.
But that’s not all. It’s not all smiles and laughter as the script warms your heart – joint family living throws light on the heartfelt bond between grandchildren and grandparents, making us wonder if we sometimes hold on to tradition and biradari, forcing future generations to bow down to our will and command, and in the process, losing someone very dear to our heart! When Saima Akram Chaudhry pens characters, she throws in comic timing, witty dialogues, and relatable moments – be it Pari with her carefree charm, Nimmo and Shabbo with their perpetual friction, or Tooba with her transparent ‘love is in the air’, walking on a bubble type of endearing dil phek romance feels.
Although Ishq Jalebi fans are feeling nostalgic this Ramazan, Geo TV has teamed up once more with the talented duo of Saima Akram Chaudhry & Wajahat Hussain stand strong as they hand out a new story, new characters, and a familiar rom-com feel to keep things smiling throughout the month.
Eye Catching Sets & Wardrobe
Joint family is the center of all things Chaudhry & Sons does best, welcoming guests, seeking suitable rishtas for the single at heart, and adding a comic twist to relationships – can’t leave out makers Abdullah Kadwani & Asad Qureshi, who are known to be closely involved in all their projects – as well as director Wajahat Hussain and writer Saima Akram Chaudhry and the entire team for adding the color to Imran Ashraf’s jackets, curls to Ayeza Khan’s hairdo, full-on entertainment to Irsa Ghazal’s English speaking dadi shades and of course, the sentimental to Sohail Ahmad’s dada throne. Every character is well defined and well placed to add color to the plot twists.
Pari’s home in Hyderabad was a visual treat to behold. The open courtyard setting and simple yet color-fully cluttered bedroom, minute details like the charpai propped against the wall, add to the overall ambience. Successive scenes break the monotony as the makers take us outdoors – the upset tarbooz cart and Billu’s panic reaction, driving away in his bright yellow jeep, the desi rap jig as Imran Ashraf aka Billu cut loose with some very spontaneous moves, adds a distinct vibe to the Ramazan drama scene!
Ayeza Khan & Imran Ashraf Have Us Hooked!
As we await more interaction between Imran Ashraf and Ayeza Khan aka Billu & Pari, the story is on the right track, offsetting Billu’s don’t care attitude with Pari’s jazbaati vibes – both, totally not interested in any possibility of romance, yet we know it’s going to happen, and we can’t wait.
A word on Imran Ashraf and Ayeza Khan here. Imran has slipped into the role like a glove, vibing to a rap beat, walking with swag and overconfidence that sneaks a grin out of us for his ability to gel in with a look we have not seen him take on earlier – comic timing is perfect and yes, the laughter is real.
Ayeza is no stranger to comedy, yet it is hard to shake off a character (Meenu from Chupke Chupke) and convince audiences that the person on screen is now Pareesa aka Pari who is assertive, vulnerable, moon phatt, and yes, utterly spontaneous with her tongue in cheek responses. Ayeza Khan is not overplaying Pari and it is this subtlety, minus any lame histrionics or OTT dramatization that is making her believable. Now that the characters are well settled in our minds and hearts, we look forward to some comic-romance interactions between this lead pair, and why not, that’s what a Ramazan drama is all about!
Note Of Appreciation For The Supporting Cast!
If that’s not all, the supporting cast is adding miles to the script and keeping us engaged. From Sohail Ahmed & Shagufta Ejaz’s budding romance (we hope) to Yasir Nawaz (Tashi Mamoo’s quest for a bride) to Asma Abbas and Madiha Rizvi’s entertaining interaction. Sami Khan as Bunty Chaudhry is doing a superb job at keeping it fun. His comic timing is perfect, expressions are lit, and dialogues are on point – a prime example of how to add color to a character that is not a lead, yet we look forward to his intermittent screen appearances throughout the 40 mins episode. And how can we miss ace actor Noor ul Hassan’s ponytailed look and sheer appearance on screen!
What more do you need from a Ramazan drama we ask? Oh well, the OST brings it all together – totally hummable, totally musical, and totally lingering lyrics from Wajhi Farooki and a lilting composition from Tarun Wajhi – you will find yourself humming this one well after the episode draws curtains every night.
A complete entertainment package? Yes, that’s exactly what Chaudhry & Sons delivers every day, every episode. If you’re in love with Billu and Pari, then you know you’re rooting for an entertaining love story, more joint family shenanigans, and a post iftar session that will sneak more than a smile out of you…and that’s a Ramazan drama in a nutshell!
Catch the OST here and hum along, if you aren’t already!
