So, just like everyone else, I’ve also hopped on the Korean food obsession bandwagon (no shame there!). But here’s the thing: ordering dumplings is always a gamble. By the time they arrive at my place, they’re usually cold, with the wrappers sticking together like an overcooked mess—and don’t get me started on how they turn soggy if they’re left in that container for too long. There’s just no winning with delivery dumplings.

But then—cue drumroll—enter Dimplin! I was browsing when I stumbled upon the holy grail of convenience: frozen dumplings that you can whip up at home! I’ll admit, I may have squealed a little (okay, a lot) seeing that I could have dumplings on demand without dealing with the sad, mushy versions I’ve gotten used to.
First Take: Nepali Momos
Now, let’s talk about these momos. Dimplin’s Nepalese dumplings have a filling of tender chicken mixed with finely shredded cabbage, crisp celery, onions, green onions, and a blend of South Asian spices that sing in harmony. The little parcels come with a rich, red sauce made of puréed tomatoes, which sounded promising.
But, as excited as I was, the tomato sauce didn’t quite hit the mark. It’s creamy, but it lacks that zing that my taste buds were craving. Don’t get me wrong, the momos were pretty good—juicy filling, nice chewy wrapper—but the sauce? Meh, could’ve been better.
Chicken Shiitake Dumplings aka The Star Of The Show
I gave their chicken shiitake dumplings a shot, and these were more promising. The filling was flavorful—juicy chicken paired with just the right amount of seasonings. And the dumpling skin? Surprisingly balanced—not too thick and not too thin, so you get that satisfying chew without feeling like you’re biting through rubber.
You can also taste the mushrooms, which add a nice earthy undertone and enhance the flavor of the filling. And when I paired it with their chili oil—let’s just say, I found my new guilty pleasure. The chilli oil had that perfect blend of heat and smokiness, without overpowering the delicate flavors of the dumpling. Major win.
The Key To Perfection
The key with frozen dumplings, though, is mastering the cooking technique. After some trial and error, I found that frying and then steaming worked wonders. Fry them until the bottom is golden and crispy, then steam to cook the filling through. This way, you get the best of both worlds—crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Trust me, it’s worth the extra few minutes!
So, is Dimplin my new best friend? Let’s just say, with a stash of their dumplings in my freezer, those takeout cravings aren’t as much of a dilemma anymore.
