Faraar the drama is moving forward with Nazo’s story taking centre stage this week. But what keeps it an interesting watch are the plotlines regarding party politics, the common man, and how he falls prey to the forces that be. Nazo, Babrik, Batish, Fasih will have their stories converge sooner or later, and as we play the guessing game, every episode unravels the mystery to give us a new revelation.

Here’s what went down in the latest episode of Faraar.
Batish was noticeable by his absence, but even as we were about to miss his cool guy feels, in steps Nazo aka Baggi, fully in sync with Faraar mode on. Her back story turned back the clock a decade earlier and her destiny, fleeing the scene before and now again, made her story almost ironic – a tragic representation of Fate playing out to serve her yet another stroke of (ill) luck. This time, she’s back home and knowing what she was fleeing from earlier not only makes one sympathize with her but also fear for her life.
Gripping Performances
Sohai Ali Abro has delivered a gripping performance, and we wait to see her next moves. Meanwhile, a word on edits. It was great to see the flashback and current time lines playing alongside each other as the directors, (there are two in Faraar) played with the story to give us all the thrills we expect from this full action thriller.
Onwards to Naseer’s story and his inevitable dark end. The karahi gosht added a signature dark end to the living dead, because that’s what he was possibly even before he stepped out of the police safe house. It was only a matter of time. Both Saleem and Javed, heady with the taste of power and victory have no idea one of them might be next. Such are the power games of power politics in a nation wrought with corruption and influence that no one is safe once they’ve chosen to make “the party” in this case, QIP, their means of livelihood.
Fasih will have to think on his feet now. he’s been one step behind his opponent every time, but the 48-hour ultimatum is a now or never mission that will soon turn to do or die. Will he give us Sadia in the bargain? Seems unlikely, yet one wonders how he plans to keep her if he doesn’t hunt down her father’s murderer.
The Dark World Of Politics
The party killing off Naseer while still calling the strike shows how politics is used to demonstrate the hold of a party over a city – police officials are well aware of the sway QIP holds, not just over the safety and security of the citizens but also the detrimental effect on the economy over a day of all out strike in the city.
New Entry On The Faraar Block
Faris Shafi enters the story with a soulful kalam and even as we paused to listen in and take it all in, we catch a hint of a smile on Batish’s face. What is he smiling at? The scene was soothing to watch and juxtaposed expertly between the turbulence essayed in Nazo’s life a decade ago and then the calm of the shrine. Are Batish, Faraz and Nazo now in the same location geographically? And what of Babrik? How far is he from the lives of these three?
Dunki Revisited?
Babrik’s uncle planning to pack him off across the border with a dream of Europe was both sinister and tragic. The dangers of such a trip was brought home once more against a backdrop of refugee crises that mars our geo-political landscape even today, with many Pakistanis still falling prey to such schemes. Babrik’s innocence and gullibility is exactly what makes such men easy prey, and one hope he is saved from the evil designs that awke him. Albeit his story needs to move a bit faster and we hope that’s about to happen in the next episode.
Finally, Shakila’s brothers have decided to pin the blame for Akmal’s murder on Nazo. But do they even know that she is in possession of incriminating evidence that might flip the story for ever. It remains to be seen how Nazo and Fasih touch base and there is hope for her eventually.
Faraar is an intriguing story because the individual characters and narratives are moving towards an ultimate meeting point and even as we await the next chapter, we suspect the story to take on many more twists and turns along the way.
Unpredictable much and definitely throwing us some power-packed performances, Faraar is the one to watch for full action, intrigue and suspense.
