Eid is near, so is the craving for some desi food, but you need to take care of your digestive system too & here’s a FUCHSIA guide by Dietitian Fareeha Jay.

Eid is a time for families and friends to get together, exchange gifts, wear new clothes and enjoy a range of decadent foods. However, strategic eating should be followed after a prolonged fasting month to avoid digestion issues.
Here are 5 tips to look after your digestive system on Eid!
1. Sharing is Caring: Go Slow & Share Your Treats
Eid food can be quite tempting. However, go slow and avoid filling up your plates (un) mindfully. Listen to your body and be aware of all the foods you are eating. Have a variety but keep your portions small. More so, share your treats with your friends and family. Halve the barfi with your cousin or share a bowl of sheer khorma with your sister.
2. Portion Control: Cut Down On Fatty Foods & Sugar
Too much sugar or too much fat can make you nauseous and bloated. Try to reduce how many samosas you have or how many jalebis you have.
3. Say No To Bloating: Reduce Caffeine Intake
Caffeine-containing beverages, like coffee, colas, tea, and some carbonated drinks, increase stomach acid and can cause heartburn for some. Generally, fizzy drinks tend to bloat the stomach, which can also cause heartburn.
4. Think First. Eat Later: Eat Mindfully
Before you eat your Eid meals, pause, and reflect on the significance of the day. Engage with your meals and observe their colors, textures, and aromas. Savour each bite and engage your senses.
5. A Short Walk Goes A Long Way: Get Active
Eid can be a busy time, but it’s very important to take time out to do any type of activity. You can go for a short walk or do something which you enjoy.
As Eid approaches, the anticipation for delicious desi food grows, but it’s important to also consider the well-being of your digestive system. Celebrating Eid with delicious dishes doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your health. A balanced diet can still offer the flavors and satisfaction you crave while keeping your digestion in check. So this Eid, indulge in your favorite treats, but remember to incorporate fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into your meals. Your body will thank you for it, allowing you to fully enjoy the festivities without any discomfort. Wishing you a joyful Eid filled with delectable delights and good health!
