What a week it’s been! With so much going on, it’s easy for a few things to slip by – and that’s exactly where we come in.

This week was packed with major stories – from breaking news and sad moments to ongoing investigations. Here’s a quick look at the events that caught attention across the country and around the world.
1. Parwarish’s Last Episode

Parwarish’s last episode aired this week, and it delivered everything viewers had been waiting for – the boss’s last message to Wali, Maaz and Amal’s cute interaction, Sameer’s story wrapping up, and the most awaited reunion of Wali and Jahangir. It all came together so perfectly. Parwarish has been an absolute ride and a very true-to-life depiction of different generational gaps and issues. Parwarish will be missed!
2. DHA Karachi Mother Accused Of Killing Her Two Children

In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked Karachi, a 37-year-old woman has been arrested on allegations of brutally killing her two young children inside her Defence Housing Authority (DHA) residence early Thursday morning. The suspect, identified as Adeeba, allegedly slit the throats of her children – eight-year-old Zarrar and four-year-old Sameeha – using a sharp knife. Police have confirmed the recovery of the murder weapon from the scene. According to police records, Adeeba and her former husband, Ghufran Khalid, divorced in September 2024 after years of marital strain reportedly linked to Adeeba’s mental health struggles, including psychiatric illness and frequent seizures. 3. Materialists Isn’t A Love Story – It’s More Of A… Transaction

In Materialists, Celine Song delivers a sharp, cheeky romantic dramedy centered on Lucy (Dakota Johnson), a New York matchmaker torn between wealth and emotional authenticity. Caught in a triangle between rich financier Harry (Pedro Pascal) and her struggling ex, actor John (Chris Evans), Lucy’s journey unpacks the uncomfortable math behind modern romance. The film also digs into real-world issues – like financial expectations and consent – going beyond fluff to deliver something thoughtful and a bit messy. We reviewed it this week for you guys, read here.
4. Dumper Truck Tragedy On Rashid Minhas Road

In the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, Karachi witnessed yet another tragic road accident that has reignited the debate over road safety and heavy vehicle regulation in the city. At approximately 3:15 a.m., a speeding dumper truck collided with a motorcycle carrying three members of a family near Lucky One Mall on Rashid Minhas Road. The impact killed 22-year-old Mahnoor and her 14-year-old brother, Ahmed Raza, on the spot, while their 48-year-old father, Shakir, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed the siblings were brought in dead, while their father was undergoing treatment. Relatives said Mahnoor was soon to be married, adding a further layer of heartbreak to the tragedy.
5. Tamasha Season 4 Started This Week But Is Struggling To Entertain Audiences!

After Tamasha’s third season became a huge hit, audiences were hoping for something even bigger and better in Season 4 – fresher faces, more well-known participants, creative tasks, and moments that would set this season apart from the rest. While there was plenty of buzz and excitement before the launch, the response to the contestant lineup has been lukewarm. Some fans believe certain participants are trying to recreate the personalities and gameplay styles of contestants from earlier seasons. For example, Omi Butt has been compared to Saima Baloch, Ovais Riaz’s attitude reminds viewers of Ayaz Samoo, and Maham Mirza’s strategy has drawn parallels to Dania Enwar’s approach. One point of criticism from the audience has been the constant criticism and interruptions from Badshah Salamat. Viewers say it feels similar to previous seasons, where his frequent involvement sometimes affected the natural flow of the contestants’ interactions.
6. Anas Al Sharif: A Voice Silenced In Gaza

On August 11, 2025, Al Sharif was killed in an Israeli airstrike near Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. He was 28. Four of his Al Jazeera colleagues, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and an assistant, were killed alongside him, as well as freelance reporter Mohammad Al-Khaldi. Israel alleged that Al Sharif was linked to Hamas and headed a militant cell, accusations he had publicly denied in life and which press freedom groups and the United Nations said were unsupported by evidence. Al Jazeera condemned the strike as a “desperate attempt to silence voices in anticipation of the occupation of Gaza.” On Monday, crowds gathered at Sheikh Radwan Cemetery in Gaza to bid farewell. Friends, relatives, and colleagues embraced through tears. Al Jazeera called him “one of Gaza’s bravest journalists,” a sentiment echoed by many who saw him as among the last remaining voices telling Gaza’s story to the world. Tap here to read more.
7. Clever or Insensitive? Witty or Irresponsible? What Social Media Trolling Can Lead To… And We’re All Responsible.

Sahir Lodhi has been posting short reels of his gym sessions, sharing his favorite foods, talking about life lessons, sprinkling in his personal philosophies, and generally opening a window into his everyday life. It’s lighthearted content. It doesn’t harm anyone. But if you’ve dared to peek at the comment sections under those videos, you’d think he was doing something unforgivable. The trolling is relentless. Somewhere along the way, we’ve convinced ourselves that trolling is entertainment. That piling on someone is just a bit of fun. But at the other end of those words is a real human being, and the damage we inflict doesn’t vanish just because we typed it into a phone. This isn’t “light teasing” or “just having fun.” It’s sustained trolling that can have consequences – severe ones. We’ve done a whole piece on trolling, cyberbullying, its impact, and more – do give it a read here.
