Who Was Abdul Khaliq?
Abdul Khaliq, known as the “Fastest Man of Asia,” was an incredible athlete who represented Pakistan on international platforms. Born in 1933, Khaliq earned the nickname “Flying Bird of Asia” from Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru because of his remarkable speed and agility. He consistently outperformed rivals in sprinting events. Khaliq first gained fame at the 1954 Asian Games in Manila, winning gold in the 100-meter sprint. He set a new Asian record with his outstanding performance. Khaliq continued to shine in subsequent Asian Games, winning more medals and establishing himself as a top sprinter.
Khaliq’s achievements went beyond the Asian Games, representing Pakistan at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He also competed in the 1960 Rome Olympics. Despite facing strong international competition, Khaliq’s dedication and determination made him a national icon. Throughout his career, he won a total of 36 international gold medals and numerous other awards.
