Hania Aamir might be doing typecast roles in Ishqiya & Dilruba, but she’s still able to impress us with her fast-maturing acting skills!
Hania Aamir who started her career with the film “Jaanan”, faced a lot of criticism at the beginning of her career as people thought that just because she was first discovered on “Dubsmash” (a social site similar to Tik Tok) she cannot be a good actress. But she seems to have proved her critics wrong!

Hania in various characters
Initially, she gained popularity with some TV commercials, but once she appeared in Dramas, she really started turning heads, and it wasn’t just because of her looks! Beginning from the very popular “Phir Wohi Mohabbat” and then the dark and intense “Mujhe Jeenay Do” which was a one-of-a-kind performance so far in her career. After that, she was being typecast and taking on largely similar characters one after the other. She was the same loud, bubbly girl with a carefree, bold nature in Titli, in Anaa.
I personally believe that every character carries it’s own depth, even when it is similar to another one, it can always hold a different range to play with. Actually I did not see that range in Hania Aamir….until 2020. This year, she has proved her skills by doing two similar roles with different range of performances.
Whether she is Sanam from Dilruba or Rumaisa from Ishqiya, Hania passed the test of performing those characters in intense circumstances with distinction
Sanam, who started her journey as a flirt, reached a forked path in her life journey (a guilt trip and possible redemption). She is presently on a mission to keep her husband away from his bad habits. Moreover, Hania has portrayed all the shades of Sanam very aptly. It was a bit disappointing for me in the first few episodes of Dilruba that she was taking on the same type of character again, but gradually, I felt that Hania, as an actress has matured finally. Her expressions, dialogue delivery, even her transitions from ‘Sanam Bewafa‘ to ‘Sanam Bewa’ to present-day Sanam, struggling to save her marriage. are very, very convincing and I’m really enjoying Dilruba.
On the other hand, we saw extremely strong-headed and ‘munhphatt’ Rumaisa in Ishqiya, who was both financially independent, and strong enough to support her parents, marry a guy beacause her parents’ wish and also makes him fall in love with her by her cute, romantic, sweet and caring gestures. The recent few episodes were about her father’s death and for me, it was a treat to watch Rumaisa rise to the role and slip into character so beautifully. Every single scene of her’s that made us laugh earlier was making us cry, and think over it again and again.
I personally don’t appreciate loud characters and over the top performances (though she was very convincing in that phase too). Thus, I enjoyed this track. It was very measured, very simple yet a very impactful performance by Hania Aamir – she is silently proving herself as a force to be reckoned with.
Hania’s integrity in her roles
Despite the fact that Ishqiya is an extremely disappointing story with a very week premise, flawed direction, unbelievable script, and highly repetitive background music, but I want to watch it every week for Hania’s range of performance and wondering how will she react once she discovers the truth about her sister and husband’s relationship.
Dilruba is also not a new story. I have seen many Dramas with a similar plot which revolve around a gold-digger like Maat, Dil Mom ka Diya, Meray Paas Tum Ho, and Jhooti… Currently, there is Jalan. But Hania is keeping me glued to the story.
I really hope that Hania surprises us with her upcoming projects. However, right now we’re enjoying Dilruba for its great execution and Ishqiya, for Rumaisa!
