When it was announced last year that Suno Chanda Season 2 will be aired, the excitement among fans was unimaginable.
But let’s be honest, as time approached for the 2nd. Season to be aired and we were treated to BTS images from the shoot, we were all a bit anxious and wondering; will they be able to create the same magic again? It’s not easy to pull off sequels that are as good as the original dramas or movies. So with lots of excitement, suspense, and apprehensions, we watched the first episode of Suno Chanda with baited breath.
And Guess What?
Suno Chanda Season 2 Episode 1 has not only managed to sustain the magic from Season 1, it was even more witty, funny and engaging.
Arsal and Jiya are back in the same old love-hate relationship where Arsal is still trying to get Jiya to treat him as her Sar ka taj, obey him, and perform all her chores like a dutiful eastern wife. Jiya on the other hand, cannot swallow this arrogant attitude and rebels in full force. In the midst of all this bickering and arguments, we also catch glimpses of their love for each other which is very endearing. The drama delivers just the right dose of love and laughter.
While Season 1 was all about Arsal and Jiya, in episode 1 of season 2 the writer and the director have attempted (and succeeded), to portray the entire cast more prominently. Each character is more developed and owns a script that ensures we remember them all. All praise goes to the writer Saima Akram Chaudhry, who has again given us a quality comedy show. Arsal’s Punjabi mom and Jiya’s paranoid dad will make you laugh out loud.
Spoiler Alert
Episode 1 also introduces a new character when Jiya’s father’s old flame attends Arsal and Jiya’s Valima. We can’t wait to see the shenanigans that will be orchestrated by this new character. Oh, and by the way this old flame is none other than the lovely Arjumand Rahim.
Social Norms?
The episode was also pivotal in subtly throwing light on a social issue – Everyone advises Jiya on how she needs to be more respectful towards Arsal, obey him and take care of him, without expecting the same behavior from Arsal for Jiya. We are wondering if Suno Chanda Season 2 will be touching upon the significant subject of women’s rights. Daughters are raised with the mindset that husbands come first and their own desires or preferences are not that important. The promo of Season 2 also shows Jiya wanting to go abroad to study and Arsal being dead against it – Episode one has set the tone for the upcoming twists in the plot.
If that’s the case, we applaud the team behind Suno Chanda for not only giving us precious moments of laughter but also attempting to highlight a very important issue and aiming to change mindsets. With its hugely popular cast and an extremely loyal fan-base, Suno Chanda is a powerful platform to initiate the thought process and start conversations that matter.
Pakistani Drama Reviews for the Season
Points to Note
The set design could have done with a face-lift. The drama has constantly maintained quality in terms of production and sets, however there are some places where it is still lacking: like the decor of Arsal and Jiya’s room, the linen used etc, could have definitely been more eye-catching. The edit could also have been smoother. Jiya is seen with different hair lengths within the span of a day. When she wakes up, she has long hair with curls. When she is sitting in her inlaw’s room, complaining about Arsal (supposedly just a few hours after waking up), she has shorter hair and then she goes back to long hair in the rest of the scenes. We know these are small things in the bigger picture, however these small things make a huge difference.
We hope the rest of the serial maintains the momentum and excitement created by the very first episode of Suno Chanda 2, and we look forward to catching Arsal and Jiya again. What happens next?
