HUM TV’s Hurmat, starring Dananeer Mobeen and Shahveer Jafry, tells the story of a young woman who has spent most of her life living under strict restrictions, with little say in how she wants to live. Written by Kashif Anwar and directed by Nadeem Siddiqui, the drama follows Hurmat as she steps into a new phase of life, makes friends, experiences her first crush and begins discovering what it means to make choices for herself.

Hurmat lives with her parents, but life at home is far from easy. Her father, Akram (Ali Tahir), is extremely controlling and does not give her the freedom to live life on her own terms. Despite having completed her bachelor’s degree, Hurmat struggles to convince him to let her continue her education. Her mother is in a similar position, unable to stand up to Akram or challenge the restrictions he places on their lives.
It is Hurmat’s taya (Javed Sheikh) who eventually steps in to help her pursue further education. With his support, she gets admission to university, opening the door to a life she has rarely experienced. She makes friends with Kenny and Fenny, spends time with them and begins enjoying the freedom of being outside her home. For someone who has grown up with so many restrictions, even these seemingly ordinary experiences feel new.
University also brings romance into Hurmat’s life. When Faraz expresses his interest in her, she makes it clear that she does not feel the same way. Her attention, however, turns towards Tabish (Shahveer Jafry), a man she admires for standing up for what he believes in. After witnessing him confront Faraz’s father, Hurmat becomes interested in him and finds an excuse to approach him for an autograph.
Her crush on Tabish soon becomes more apparent, with Kenny and Fenny helping her find opportunities to interact with him. Tabish, too, begins to notice Hurmat’s interest. By the fourth episode, their interactions have started taking a romantic turn, although it remains to be seen how their relationship will develop.
But while Hurmat is busy exploring this new side of her life, the situation at home remains a concern. Her father’s controlling nature continues to cast a shadow over her choices, and it is unclear how he will react if he discovers her growing interest in Tabish. The drama has also offered a glimpse into Akram’s past, suggesting that there may be more to his character than what viewers have seen so far.
There is another detail that makes Hurmat’s story particularly intriguing. The drama opens with a glimpse of her in prison, raising questions about the circumstances that eventually lead her there. Four episodes in, the story has introduced Hurmat’s restrictive home life, her growing independence and her interest in Tabish, but the events that connect her present to that opening scene are yet to unfold.
As Hurmat moves forward, the focus will be on whether she can make her own decisions in a household where her choices have always been controlled, and whether her newfound freedom will bring her closer to the life she wants or lead her into more difficult circumstances.
