We are developing a love-hate relationship with Hamza. Should he have said all those mean things to Hala? Does the fact that he didn’t actually do them but merely said them out loud, absolve him from blame. Should Hala stay with him as his punishment for the rest of his life? Has Mere Humsafar taken a U-turn?

Hamza’s, What Have You Done
While we were disappointed by Hamza’s insensitive words to Hala about abusing her, pulling her by the hair and dragging her around the house, his next sentence “ Nahin ker sakta kiyonkay shaoor hai” makes us wonder, were these dialogues penned to purely send the message that men with “shaoor” would never do anything like this…
It was still sad to hear Hamza utter such harsh words to someone he claims to love. The drama perhaps, represents the sad reality of men in our society, but it also walks the thin line of assuming that all men can be expected to turn toxic. No matter how educated he is, how caring he is, if he is a man, he can flip anytime and can also use mean, hurtful words in moments of intense rage. We wish the script did not contain these dialogues.

Hala oh Hala, why don’t you talk to Hamza?
Are we expecting too much from Hamza, and is it even fair to Hamza to have this kind of expectation from him?
Does Hala’s failure to clarify matters with Hamza justify Hamza’s behaviour and anger towards her? Hamza needs to know he means something to Hala, that the marriage was not a mistake even if it did take place by accident… and Hala is failing to give him this reassurance.
Should Hala stay with Hamza even after he labelled her a punishment for him for the rest of his life? We wish Hala would leave immediately, yes it might be difficult but she would start working towards strengthening herself – self-respect is most important in any relationship.
Did we really need more characters in the drama?
Hala’s Father, Where Are You?
What a big disappointment Hala’s father is. He not only abandoned Hala, but went ahead and lived a great life with his other children. When and where do we witness his accountability ? Will we even see it? Or is Hala’s current situation going to prey on his conscience, and he pays the price of his actions by feeling guilt and remorse as he watches her pain.
It was brave of Khurram to come and visit Dadi as well as check out the situation at Sameen’s house.
