In A First Of Many, Pakistani Women Summit The World’s Highest Peak
This week, Samina Baig from Shimsal became the first Pakistani woman to summit the world’s second highest peak, K2. Samina is now the only Pakistani woman to have conquered both Mount Everest and K2. She also holds the honour of scaling the seven highest peaks in the world, known as the Seven Summits. Three hours after Samina’s feat, another Pakistani woman, Naila Kiani, also successfully summitted the notorious peak.
After An Entire Year, Will Justice Finally Prevail For Noor Mukadam?
On the 20th of July 2021, Noor Mukadam was murdered by Zahir Jaffer. Almost a year has passed and the Mukadams are still seeking justice for the brutal murder of their daughter. Earlier this year, Zahir Jaffer was sentenced to death for the murder of Noor Mukadam. The judge also found him guilty of rape and awarded him 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000. Zahir’s two employees, Mohammad Iftikhar and Mohammad Jan were sentenced to 10 years in jail, while Zahir Jaffer’s parents and TherapyWorks employees were acquitted. However, according to various news outlets, both parties have since challenged the verdict and the hearing has been scheduled for September 14th 2022.
GIKI Students Bag 2 Prestigious Awards In 1 Week!
On the 12th of July, GIKI’s Team Infinity won the Concept Class LTS for virtual software by defeating students from 34 countries at the Formula Student engineering competition – Europe’s most established educational engineering competition. Ashir Junaid, the team leader for Formula GIK, told the media that their 24-member society developed the software within two months. “We are proud of making Pakistan famous all over the world,” Junaid said.
But that’s not all! On the 15th of July GIKI’s Team Foxtrot won the Business Proposition award. at the IMechE UAS Challenge 2022 held in the UK. The team stood 1st in Asia & 6th Globally, way to go, team!
KPK Government Takes Initiative To Rehabilitate Drug Addicts
According to the latest news, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide jobs to the province’s drug addicts whose treatment has been completed at rehabilitation centres. Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said the government will hold meetings with industrialists to provide jobs to recently rehabilitated drug addicts to ensure that they get their lives back on track and become well-adjusted members of society.

Recently, the 66-year-old Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates announced that he plans to transfer $20 billion of his personal wealth into the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s endowment this month – no longer being eligible to be on the list of the world’s wealthiest people. In his Twitter “post” he wrote, ‘Melinda and I started the Gates Foundation in 2000 because we believed that every person should have the chance to live a healthy and productive life. That vision remains the same, but the great crises of our time require all of us to do more. With the support and guidance of our board, we plan to increase our spending from nearly $6 billion per year today to $9 billion per year by 2026. To help make this spending increase possible, I am transferring $20 billion to the foundation’s endowment this month. I am very proud of the foundation’s role in helping solve big problems like preventing pandemics, reducing childhood deaths, eradicating diseases, improving food security and climate adaptation, achieving gender equality, and improving educational outcomes’.
News Of Van Gogh’s Hidden Self-Portrait Has The Art World In A Frenzy
A hidden self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh has been discovered behind one of his paintings, covered by layers of glue and cardboard for more than a century. The image was found when art conservators took an X-ray of Van Gogh’s 1885 “Head of a Peasant Woman” painting ahead of a forthcoming exhibition. They discovered the concealed image at the back of its canvas hidden by a sheet of cardboard. Experts say the revealed artwork is believed to have been unknown until now. The Dutch master often re-used canvases to save money, turning them around to work on the reverse side. The underlying self-portrait is thought to have likely been made during a key moment in Van Gogh’s career when he was exposed to the work of the French impressionists after moving to Paris.

According to news outlets, The Taliban have repeatedly said that they are working on a mechanism to reopen girls’ schools, but despite numerous promises, girls above the sixth grade have yet to enter a classroom again. Experts say there is division among top Taliban leadership regarding the issue. Women’s rights activists, meanwhile, say that school closures have further exacerbated forced marriages and family violence. Ahead of the UN General Assembly this September, activists urged relevant parties to take bold and coordinated actions for women’s rights in Afghanistan and they also called on the world to “demonstrate solidarity through action.”

At the 54th Asia Bodybuilding Championship, Pakistani bodybuilder Shahzad Qureshi defeated Uzbekistan’s Umar Omar Zakopol and India’s Naresh Nagdev to secure gold medal in the masterclass 80kg+ category. Moreover, Umar Shahzad and Arsalan Baig also secured silver and bronze medals in the championship for Pakistan. Pakistan’s all-format skipper Babar Azam reached another milestone as he broke Indian batter Virat Kohli’s record to become the fastest Asian batter to complete 10,000 runs in international cricket. Babar achieved the milestone during Pakistan’s opening Test against Sri Lanka here at the Galle International Stadium. It took him only 228 innings to score 10,000 runs compared to Kohli’s 232 innings. But that’s not all! Babar Azam also became the fastest Pakistani batter to complete 10,000 runs in international cricket, which was previously achieved by Pakistan batting great Javed Miandad, who achieved this target in 248 innings.

After making their debut in 2010 at the SAFF Championship, Pakistan Women’s Football is finally back! They’ll soon be competing in their first ever international event after 2014 according to the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). Scientists from Zurich, Switzerland, have developed a 3D printed soft silicone heart that resembles and functions like the original heart. The 3D-printed soft silicone heart that weighs 390 grams and has a volume of 679 cubic centimetres, can help the 26 million people who suffer from heart failure as there is a shortage of donor’s hearts. The artificial blood pump will help bridge the waiting time until a patient receives a donor heart or their heart recovers.
Here’s Why You Need To Stop Adding Salt To Your Meals Whilst Eating
According to a recent study, people who add salt to cooked meals are at a higher risk of premature death compared to those who added salt occasionally. The study’s principal investigator, Dr Lu Qi from Tulane University, said that their findings suggested that behavioural changes like reducing salt intake could be beneficial to health. The present study, published in the European Heart Journal, scrutinised data from over half a million people with an average age of 57 years old. A questionnaire found out the frequency of salt added to food. Researchers found that rates of mortality increased due to higher chances of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. However, individuals who, along with high salt intake, took fruits and vegetables were not at a higher risk of premature death. Therefore, findings suggested that fruits and vegetables balanced out even the harmful effects of salt.
Meet The Robot Fish That Eats Microplastics
Chinese scientists from Sichuan University in southwest China were able to create a Robot fish that “eats” microplastics and may one day help to clean up the world’s polluted oceans. Soft to touch and just 1.3 centimetres (0.5 inches) in size, these robots already suck up microplastics in shallow water. The team aims to enable them to collect microplastics in deeper water and provide information to analyse marine pollution in real time, said Wang Yuyan, one of the researchers who developed the robot. The black robot fish is irradiated by light, helping it to flap its fins and wiggle its body. Scientists can control the fish using light to avoid it crashing into other fish or ships. If it is accidentally eaten by other fish, it can be digested without harm as it is made from polyurethane, which is also biocompatible.

Five women journalists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have won the grand jury and first runner-up prizes at the Women’s Empowerment and Religious Freedom Film Competition in Washington DC, USA. For her movie, “She Stood Against Religious Extremism”, Peshawar-based journalist Zeenat Khan won the main jury prize at the festival, with a $3,000 cash reward. Khalida Niaz won the first runner-up prize, and won a cash prize of $1,500 for her movie “Peace Promoters”.
