From Ishq Hua to Gentleman, and of course, Zard Patton Ka Bunn thrown in between, Pakistani dramas are closing in on the romance (where they haven’t tied the knot yet), KMKT, Mann Jogi, Noor Jahan and Jafaa are not wedding contenders here, but romance is a common thread running throughout the week, we kid you not! So let’s begin from the beginning or rather, halfway through as Iqbal Munna and Zarnab go for the kill!

So let’s dive in to the happening week that was with Pakistani dramas telling stories that drive conversations, romance goals and perhaps, give a sleepless night or two, as fans wait for episode next to roll in, I have a feeling Mann Jogi is that story, where audiences want more than they’re getting every week?
But we start with Gentleman, well because, is the wedding happening or not? Let’s debate the question:
1. Gentleman

The wedding date became a conversation of sorts and it was amusing to watch Munna and Zarnab battling out the time and date. Munna seemed to have won but then Zarnab caught him on the backfoot by aiming to outsmart Faaris’ imminent moves. Of course, her telling Zulmi that her word is as good as Munna’s was the fun bit that made Munna do a double take.
Dilbar opening his heart out to Zarnab but not quite, was a moving moment and Mifra wiping away a tear added a shade of grey in a woman who has surrendered whole heartedly to her love story, albeit, one she perhaps regrets now? We often expect the person we love to be more than he or she is, did Mifra just realize that too? She is, perhaps, the anti-gentleman, offloading all of Faaris’ evil plans (we hope)!
2. Mann Jogi

The story steers itself to address a conversation we needed to yesterday. It was so refreshing to see Aliya and Ibrahim attempt to seek shelter in a church. Aliya’s backstory gets more intriguing and although we think Mann Jogi is a crawl, every new episode delivers a new plot twist.
Ibrahim standing up for Aliya against Usman was just awesome. Layers are peeling off this character like a caterpillar that’s coming of age, and one wonders when he will reveal his inner strength fully, for there is much to admire there. His insistence on the divorce and Aliya’s insistence not to go through with it is of course, the central theme the narrative will be built upon!
3. Zard Patton Ka Bunn

Oh dear, love is in the air. From Dr. Nofil teaching Meenu Chemistry to Meenu telling Dr. Nofil, she is afraid of herself, love has happened already, the episode was a journey in revelations. Meenu hiding under the chadar, Meenu pretending to be sick, Dr. Nofil checking her temperature and then, calling out her bluff was an amusing moment.
Mairaj-uddin’s quest for drugs, Nasreen’s battle with the justice system, Malik Nadir’s attempts to exercise his influence and Mubashir’s opportune discovery pushed the narrative forward as ZPKB closes in on a climax where all is not going to be okay very soon. The drama employs humour to reveal the hard truths amidst us and we fear for what’s to come, despite smiling at the storytelling.
4. Jafaa

So Moiz is not in the game anymore but Andaleeb and Dr. Numair need to move on from the friendship bit to “something more”. Question is, will a jalebi solve Deebu’s mother in-law issues? Some tough conversations needed as dessert can’t solve everything Dr. Numair!
Zara realizes things are tougher than they seem. Thank Goodness she’s out of there. Although we loved how the topic of Domestic Violence was address from multiple POVs. Hassan not considering therapy, Zara’s dadi, the voice of Log Kya Kahenge, and her parents being super progressive. However, it was Hassan’s instant reaction and apologies that intrigued; can he be viewed as a regular abuser or is there room for treatment there? Tell us what you think?
5. Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum
Sharjeena standing up for Mustafa was the best thing, schooling Adeel on what women really was the next best. But Adeel is not about to give up and of course, the misunderstanding between our two lovebirds – Mustafa and Sharjeena has to happen to take things to the next level.
Adeel is getting tired of Rubab and it’s showing. The story is as much about how he’s been conditioned as a son to take the praise and limelight (away from Mustafa). Will Sharjeena react to how Mustafa stays quiet and never takes a stand before his brother? Is it fair to expect men to be both, supportive, secure and strong, yet not dominating or assertive at the same time? And is it fair to expect women to help them be their best? Tell us what you think.

6. Noor Jahan
The episode belonged to Sumbul, or perhaps Noor Bano, for being the pillar she could lean on. Loved the way Noor Bano explained to Murad how she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she didn’t support a girl who was all alone in this world.
Safeena draws courage from Sumbul and Noor Jahan’s world is about to come shattering down, or will it? She always has something new up her sleeve. What could it possibly be now? P.S. Love the addition of house-help by Hunaid!
Maha joins the daughters in-law club by speaking up for her rights. How far can the game go on as Safeer being Safeer still stays out of the picture!
7. Ishq Hua

So Tabrez it is as opposed to Bahaar, for Minsa. The story is heading towards a battle zone in the very next episode as the two “brothers” fight over who gets Minsa, though she’s made her choice very clear.
Consent of a woman is not something Bahaar worries about and one can see his sinister side aroused. What one fails to see is how Tabrez could expect Minsa to marry someone much older than her, and also hide the fact that he has taken lives (something Minsa suspects anyway). Oh well, he might end up being the ghar daamaad she wanted eventually, but it’s going to be some thrill and action before these two manage to continue their love story.
Minsa asking for food (and chai) in the middle of the night, Bahaar entering the scene and Minsa clearly preferring Tabrez, his discomfort clearly evident before Bahaar, was entertaining to watch.
More could have been done to make the interaction between these two more fun – two young people falling in love can be a moving, cute, smile moment onscreen. We hope there’s more creative dialogue and moments in future episodes.
And that’s it from us at The Week In Dramas. Tell us what we missed and drop us a comment to add your bit. Till next week, ciao and happy watching!
