Jaan Nisar is on air now, and just when we thought we were submerged neck deep, not an inch of screen space left to take in yet another new Pakistani drama offering, in drops Jaan Nisar. We saw it coming, but we didn’t really see it coming, get what we mean? No, you obviously don’t, because you haven’t watched the 3rd episode yet!

Jaan Nisar is a project of 7th Sky Entertainment, helmed by the inimitable duo Abdullah Kadwani and Abdullah Qureshi. The drama airs on Geo Entertainment and it dropped three episodes as kick-starter to a storyline that’s not as simple as it seems on first glance.
The Characters
Dua, essayed by the versatile Hiba Bukhari, is your ‘not so typical’ young girl who’s living a regular life at home, but dreams of something more in her dreams. She’s fond of dancing, dreams of exotic dishes for lunch, breakfast and dinner rather than your aaloo gobi desi meal and subconsciously perhaps, would also love to have someone in her life who can help her get closer to her dreams. Not that she’s your typical “fortune seeker Pakistani drama heroine trope”, she’s just a girl, and wants what all girls want, when they dream a bit more than their obedient, grounded, practical sisters.
Enter Nosherwan who’s decidedly dark, mysterious and a no-nonsense kind-a-guy. Umm, Danish Taimoor, the dream Pakistani drama hero springs to mind as the ideal casting option and voila, it is! But wait on folks, this is what the makers want you to believe, is there more to him than meets the eye?
We can’t vouch for it, but noting at the views rolling in on this one, we thought we’d put our Danish formula to the test and watched along.
Wait, There’s More!
On the other side, all seems happily love-struck in the Faraz-Dua camp (yes no more spoilers here, you’ll have to watch), it’s a fast-paced love story. And while you wonder who’s Faraz, we’ll slip you the inside that the character is played by Haroon Shahid. Back to Nosherwan who notes Dua on two separate occasions and seems curiously amused, though he hasn’t really admitted this random sensation to himself, just yet.
Note to viewers: if you want to catch up, might as well watch since the chance encounter might happen soon enough.
But here comes the catch, one we hadn’t really expected, and full marks to the creators for saving it till episode 3. In another life, Nosherwan was forced to tie the knot with his brother’s wife Kashmala, who was tragically and unexpectedly widowed. Now the poor man has always regarded her as a bhabi and this very dramatic turn of events has left him lost, with an inner sadness that he channels into doing good or saving women who might be persecuted by the village ghunda.
Sounds good so far? There’s also an unrevealed mystery woven into “who killed Nosherwan’s brother backstory” and Dua’s father, who is quite the dodgy man of the house, strictly forbidding any form of song and dance or mobile phone activity in his home, yet has a roving eye for women outside his home.
And that’s it folks, your breezy recap of Jaan Nisar, catch up this week and discover for yourselves if this is your cup of drama tea, or not!
