With the final episode all set to drop tonight, we give you “5 Reasons Why Jhoom Is Your Limited Episode Series With A Difference”.
1. Not A Crime Thriller
It is not a crime thriller like many of its contemporaries. But also, love stories that stretch till the 30th Episode are so not “IN” in 2023 and Jhoom shows us how. The story wraps up in rapid episodic bursts with lots happening every week. Yet, despite its fast pace, it’s not a crime thriller as most limited episode series have essayed recently. This one is a breezy love story and you’ll enjoy the pace as it won’t stretch like your stretch-iest elastic rubber band, keeping you wondering if it’ll rip or keep you in its grip – the love story might not be a crime thriller but the cinematography, performances and young feel will keep you invested and not for 30 long episodes (thankfully).
So you’re in and out in 16, which is how 2023 love stories should be written, no?
2. Normalizing Age Difference In Marriage
The hero and heroine share an age difference between them (the heroine being older than our hero), but the onscreen romance between Dr Maryam and Aryaan makes it so appealing that the narrative paves the way for other likeminded love stories to take shape. This is not your typical love story and yet, despite the age difference between couples having been addressed in earlier narratives, the Jhoom portrayal is so refreshing and the onscreen pairing so endearing that you’ll soon forget about their age difference – isn’t that how it should be? The narrative achieves an A grade in this regard because now, we can get on with the story without focusing on “inconsequential” age gaps in romance – a thing of the past?
We sure hope so.
3. The Perfect Weekend Watch
Jhoom can be your weekend watch. Not too long. Not too short. 16 episodes long (and short) makes it a complete love story that takes you on an emotional journey that can be planned for a rainy “stay in” weekend. Just make sure the popcorn or pakoras are hot and plenty!
4. Appealing Cinematography
Jhoom is shot like a mini film. The frames, landscapes, outdoor locations and production quality give off a “big screen” feel. Hence, you can bring on the popcorn and watch this Pakistani love story unfold right inside the comfort of your living room. Throw in some pizza for the ride.
In a bustling metropolis like Karachi, it’s often hard to catch soothing backdrops that seem not too contrived, closer to nature and yet, scenic. Jhoom has employed seaside views and well known historical landmarks to show off the city and create the aesthetics to offset a charming love story. The indoor scenes are also detail oriented with Dr Mariyam’s apartment itself checking the “feel good” meter. Take a look for yourself and you’ll note how the makers have aimed to “up” their game.
Add to that the automobile factory where Aryaan is seen showing off his engineering prowess. Again, the setting and attention to detail adds miles to the project and we’re here to say we took it all in!
5. Messages Beyond The Romance
A hero who’s flawed yet not toxic, a heroine who isn’t your typical damsel in distress, a villain who depicts many young people caught up in drugs and gun culture – Jhoom essays everyday characters in relatable situations.
Aryaan owns his anger management issues instead of staying in denial. The story is also not about toxic in laws or extra marital affairs – phew, big sigh of relief! The negative character is caught up in issues that are hugely youth relevant and it all comes together with positive bonds of friendship that we have often seen picturized onscreen in problematic or unrelatable undertones – but not this time though! The story highlights endearing bonds we share with friends which are often not essayed as relatable as they were onscreen with Sam, Tina and Mahlab.
Yes Jhoom has all of that and and the filmy twist to the tale, but what’s not to like in a drama that’s not a bit dramatic?
Jhoom airs twice a week – Friday and Saturday, on HAR PAL GEO. All episodes are also available to watch on YouTube.
