The secret is out. The haveli is haunted and even as Zara tries hard to hold on to her Rs. 80 crore, how many lives will be risked, or lost, before she wins her prize

But Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi is not just about a haunted house, it’s about a young girl (a Jinn, mind you), Khushi, who’s fallen for a young, ordinary guy, Ali and will do anything to protect him from her jinn family. It’s also about a young YouTuber, inspired by Gen Z, who is less afraid of the spirits that threaten her and more into locking in on her social media lives. It’s also about some engaging performances and a location that is positively dreamy, if it hadn’t been for the Jinnaat surrounding it. More importantly, we love the way humour captures the mood just when things are about to get spooky.
Zara telling Asad she can’t feed Nadia because the Jinn might eat off her hand was a moment, especially when Asad offered that she aim the niwalay ki goliyan straight into her mouth. Nadia’s ‘mind-blowing’ hairdo, styled by Khushi, and then later, as she was possessed by Azer was another moment. Pakistani dramas have often attempted to capture the world of spirits onscreen, either spinning a horror tale or keeping things strictly comical – but Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi has managed to strike a balance between a love story – a human with the other world (about to cross over from one-sided love to a complete circle, just wait for it), a take on contemporary Gen Z and social media influencers, and all this staged against a tale of a family of Jinns who felt they had been wronged by the ancestors of the family who reside in the haveli now.
The story has enough to keep audiences entertained with performances and direction that keep things interesting.
When Nadia was possessed by Azer, it was a scene to watch as she jumped from one towering rock to the other. The blending of Romaisa Khan’s performance with a male voice certainly gave possessed vibes. In fact the force with which she fought with and then struck Asad, demonstrating the power of the demon inside her kept us on the edge of our seats. The final blow on the head by Zara, again, her expressions matching the panic, was a gripping watch. Just as much as when Zara unties one of Nadia’s hands and Azer appears instantly. Again, the surprise element where Changez chacha enters the room and suddenly and saves Nadia with his taweez was good storytelling in action.
Where Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi is acing the depiction of supernatural forces, it also amuses with scenes such as Khushi making Ali wear the taweez by moving the table and causing the drawer to open. Her words that she cannot touch anything also educated audiences on how events will play out later, where she will have to force things to happen through her powers.
Smile moments such as Khushi watching Ali about to take a shower and forcing the door shut, then switching his shirts revealed the creativity and playfulness of the story line that keeps everyone invested; from the viewer who wants to watch the Jinn family work their powers, to the romance fans who just want to see a love story roll out between Ali and Khushi.
Nadia and Ali not considering each other a love interest was so refreshing to watch. Ali and Nadia friend-zoning each other, Nadia doing 4 hour lives everyday and turning every life moment into a chance to post on her blog, and not comprehending why anything should be hidden from Asad, insisting she must call her mother and inform her about her whereabouts was a relatable take on Gen Z. Though Nadia’s mother seems to be too laid-back. Is there a story here? We’re about to find out soon as the journalist in her finds a story in the haveli’s mysterious happenings.
The family trying to get an Amil to figure out how to overcome the Jinns was an interesting move and although Khushi prevented it for now, this is a plot twist we’re waiting for, especially since the Jinns weren’t too happy about an Amil visiting the house. Will he be able to overpower the Jinn family?
But there is more to the story and what seems like a threatening presence might actually be a sad story as more will be revealed about why Asad and Ali’s grandfather, Fasiuddin imprisoned them for so long. What is the story about constructing the haveli and why are the jinns residing here, not allowing anyone from the family to inhabit the place. Have they really killed people? So far, Azer and family seem threatening but the drama hasn’t shown much more.
Jamshed’s wife looking for him and engaging the police in her search will open up more hidden secrets in the haveli. Also, the Jinns seem to be happy to implicate the family in a murder case, because that seems like a smart way to get rid of them.
Is Jamshed really dead or will we see him again?
