Pakistani dramas often give us powerful love stories, heartbreaking betrayals, and complicated family dynamics – but every once in a while, a character steals the spotlight simply by being real and true. In Kafeel, that character is Sumaira.

Kafeel: 3 Reasons Why We All Need A Friend Like Sumaira In Our Lives

When you are in a place where Zeba is, surrounded by people who question you the moment you finally gather the courage to speak up for yourself, it can feel incredibly isolating. When you choose your peace over someone’s constant nuisance, and not just your peace but the wellbeing of four other lives that depend on you, you expect a little understanding. After all, staying with the wrong person doesn’t just affect you – it affects your children too. But instead of support, all you hear is: “Why did you walk out of your marriage? You should have told us. You should have discussed it with us.” And the hardest part is that it often comes from your own family first.

When Zeba finally meets Jamal after all these years, remarriage is the last thing on her mind. After everything she has been through, the idea of starting over feels more frightening than hopeful. Choosing herself once already came with consequences. Her family didn’t abandon her, but they certainly didn’t celebrate her decision either. Instead of reassurance, she was met with questions, doubts, and disapproval. Experiences like that stay with you. They make you second-guess every decision that follows.

So it’s only natural that Zeba keeps brushing the thought of remarriage aside, even before anyone else can question it. And before the family’s reactions or society’s judgments even enter the picture, her biggest fear stands right in front of her – her children. What will they think of her? Will they be disappointed? Will they feel like their mother is being selfish? When you are carrying so many fears at once and there’s no one around who truly understands what you’re going through, it becomes even harder to process your own emotions.

In a situation like this, a friend like Sumaira truly feels like a blessing. She may technically be an outsider, but that’s exactly what makes her presence so comforting. She doesn’t judge Zeba or make her feel guilty for finally choosing herself. Instead, she listens – really listens. She understands the weight Zeba has been carrying all this time and gently reminds her that wanting peace, respect, and even a second chance at happiness is not selfish. When everything feels overwhelming, having a friend like that makes all the difference. Someone you know will never backstab you, never twist your words, and never make you feel small for what you’re feeling. Someone in front of whom you can pour your heart out without thinking twice. And that’s exactly the kind of bond we’re seeing between Zeba and Sumaira.

Last night’s conversation between the two made us think a little deeper – and here are three reasons why we’re all secretly praying for a friend like Sumaira in our lives.

1. She Reassures Zeba

Zeba is hesitant about letting Jamal back into her life. In her mind, the memories she shares with him are beautiful just the way they are, and she fears that marriage might ruin them if things don’t work out. After everything she has already been through, that fear feels very real. But Sumaira gently reassures her that life cannot be lived entirely in fear of “what ifs.” She reminds Zeba that she deserves happiness, companionship, and the chance to start over if that’s what her heart wants. Instead of letting Zeba retreat into doubt, Sumaira encourages her to see that sometimes giving life a second chance isn’t risky – it’s necessary.

2. She Makes Her Think About Herself

One of Zeba’s biggest concerns is her children. She keeps wondering what they will think if she decides to remarry? But Sumaira gives her a much-needed reality check. She reminds Zeba that one day her three daughters will get married and move into their own homes, and her son will eventually build a life of his own too. Then what? Who will Zeba have for herself? It’s the kind of truth many people avoid saying out loud, but Sumaira doesn’t shy away from it. She pushes Zeba to think beyond her fears and start considering her own future – and it’s this honest, caring nudge that might slowly move Zeba to reflect on what she truly wants from life.

3. She Guides Her Without Judgement

More than anything else, Sumaira helps Zeba perceive the situation with clarity rather than guilt. When Zeba starts seeing remarriage as something wrong or shameful, Sumaira reminds her that Islam has given women this right. If something is halal, why should she feel like she’s doing something bad? In a society where people are quick to judge and label a woman’s choices, it’s easy for someone like Zeba to internalize that pressure. Women like Zeba are quick to slip into self denial mode, guilty of ever entertaining the idea that they too, have a right to a second chance at love, and life! But Sumaira helps her separate societal noise from what is actually right for her life. Instead of forcing a decision, she simply guides Zeba to see that choosing happiness again is not something she needs to apologize for.

In the whirlwind of life’s challenges, it’s rare to find someone who can see you clearly, remind you of your worth, and guide you without judgment. Sumaira does all of this for Zeba – and more. In a world where on-screen friendships are often shallow, toxic, or filled with backstabbing, Sumaira is a breath of fresh air. She reminds us that purity, sincerity, and true loyalty still exist – even in the midst of drama and judgment. This is one such character we wish we could see more of on our screens – because beyond the twists, heartbreaks, and chaos, what we all secretly crave is a friend like Sumaira in our own lives.
